Whenever I fall its shoulders first hitting ground then body swings to the left and hit the knee. It doesn't matter what way I fall off its always ends the same. Is anybody else like this or is it just me.

I seem to dive off sideways and land on my side, works out ok if a bit winding! Only time I haven't done this was as I had no warning and went straight over his head smashing my poor arm!

I used to always fall off to the right and land on my shoulders. Until the current horse where its always the left and usually on my shoulders, although sometimes head/bum or even feet!

This is my signature fall!!

As you can see we finally managed to jump it, but the falls were spaced a year apart and both happened in exactly the same way!

In ten years of riding I've only come off 3 times.. 4 tops!
I'm not a *good* rider, I just have an absolute velcro bum!
But when I do fall off, its on my left side in a heap! :D

Yup, left knee...........even when horse would run out to the left I would land on my left knee. Which is probably why its really sore and tight now.

Whichever side of the horse I come off, I always seem to land on my right side...

Did recently land flat on my back - do not recommend

ETA: Schmelly Em that is impressive!

usually land on my face... then left shoulder and left knee and then roll to the right but the last time i fell off i landed straight on my arse and crushed my coccyx which was incredibly painful and i bruised my bum :( i dont seem to put my hands out either... weird

Sideways, I scraped all the skin of my hip falling into a post and rail fence, have also knocked an ankle and done ligament damage because of the way I fall. Having said that it's usually onto a hip.

I have fell off standing up before :D

This is usually accompanied by a look of absolute terror and a feeling of oh c*ap!

Most often I go over the horse's shoulder (doesn't seem to matter which, possibly more often the left shoulder) and land on my bum, with the rest of my body following with force. However I am also very good at landing on my feet :D

I seem to face upwards and land on the top of my back, from the bottom of the ribcage up. Blinkin' hurts and has resulted in a hospital visit each fall and a broken collar bone last time. Collar bone was broken not from falling onto my arm but the impact from landing on my shoulder blade. If only I had wings ....

Bum... :p Its well padded.

Although this one was no choice but the head first, well I rolled over his head did a sort of somersault and ended up facing him sat on my posterior...

Yip, mine's called "SPLAT!!", as it's never pretty. I dont ride, or sit like a sack of spuds, but generally, I fall like one. NEVER graceful. Now, I dont want to fall off, but at least once, I'd like a graceful, dignified one, please. x

Always differs!! Have landed on feet on several occasions which I think is down to gymnastics as a kid and learning to catch myself out of flips ;)
But normally in Lowe back, bum or shoulder.
Have landed face/belly on the ground though. I was opening a gate, horse got scared and shot backwards just as my hand gripped said gate. No choice in that one.

On to the crown of my head, every time without fail... I think it's because my falls have all been the result of my horse rapidly decelerating after a fence (ie the knobber would launch because I'd half halted to steady him, and then land and stand stock still. I would fly over his shoulder with grace and elegance... :D )

Apart from this one:

It was 2 weeks after a really awful fall, where my stirrup had snapped and he'd bolted. I'd bailed as I knew we were heading for trouble as we had to jump to get to the lorry and I'd be a hindrance, but it went wrong and I got stuck between his front legs and got a bit trampled. This was a low-key jolly at a much lower height than usual to help me regain some confidence- I was very nervous as you can tell by my awful riding, and Cheeky was being a star. Until we got to that fence where I literally launched myself over his head a stride before take off! Landed on my head on the back pole hard enough to leave a bruise on my forehead from my hat!!

Video is worth watching, utterly hilarious fall!

Can anyone shed any light on whether the following is an old wives tale or not, but i've had jumping lessons with a few different instructors, all of which say if you land on your feet, you are not sitting in the saddle properly and are standing in your stirrups all the time?? I dont have to worry though, as it has never happened me, splat is my fall!!

Most of my bouncing over the shoulder incidents have been because my stirrups were too short.

I ride/ rode very very short, although in the video I posted I'm longer than usual. I found it helped me stick tight in all bar the rapid deceleration post-fence situations- fell off 4 times in 5 years, and one of those times was virtually voluntarily!

I've never really thought about it but I think most of my falls have been straight out the front/side door and I've completed a full somersault to land sat or stood (briefly before falling onto backside!) still holding the reins!

After one such fall though during a jump lesson I was told by my instructor (through her giggles!) to 'stop whinging, get back on and whack my stirrups up 2-4 holes for jumping! She said if they're not short enough you can't get your weight down effectively into your heels to stabilise yourself. I've always made sure I shortened properly since for jumping and do feel far more secure!

On my old horse I either got ditched out the left side door, or in his later years when he'd perfected his rear, straight out the back door. Don't fall off current horse too much, last horse had me off 10 times in 3 months, and would ditch me at every BS comp - he was full of joy

I always go to the left onto my hip and shoulder apart from a couple where I've ended up draped over a fence on my front and catapulted over horses head, landed on my head and forward rolled onto my back. They hurt less than my signature sideways fall, maybe i should practice those more.

Previous horse always used to stop dead from canter and I adopted a gracefull out-of-the-side-door flying arc to the left, landing on my ass.

Last twice I've fallen off have also involved landing on my left ass-cheek, although not as gracefully as previous.:o
