Do you have someone who exercises/trains your horse?

My instructor charges me £20 for ever time she rides him for me. Every sat night she will come down and tack up/ride him/untack etc and charges £20 for the whole lot. Im not there on sat. If she rides him at a comp she charges £20 per hour that we are there (including transport)

Well we have a lady that exercises our horses twice a week and i pay her £2.50 for half and hour so £5 a week (usually pay her £20 a month though) it just helps when you work 5 days a week

I know the thing is we pay her to bring in too which is £2.50 and then i just pay her £2.50 for half an hour i don't do loads with my horse so that just keeps him ticking over until the weekend - i think she doesn ride him a little longer though which is a bonus hehe

I exercise other peoples horses and 'horse sit' for and them if they are away for a living and i charge £10 per hour plus travel at 40p per mile when i ride for them. i wouldnt consider doing it for £2.50 a time! i would think it a cheek if someone said they would pay me that much! but i suppose if the lady is happy to do it for that much then its her loss and the owners gain!

Well the thing is she gets 3 hours work from us a day just doing stables and bringing in etc and poo picking and i asked her how much she would charge to exercise and she said £5 an hour so we just have 2 half an hour sessions in the week and it works out really well - i know where your coming from though

Hi Sarah,

As you know, my boy is liveried with a grand prix dressage rider (he's on full livery). We have the option of having her school the horses as much or as little as we like and its £15.00 per time for horses on livery with her (pretty sure its £30 per time for the odd one she travels too).

As they're already on full, that includes all groom preparation, washing of bandages and saddle clothes afterwards and cleaning tack.

It's then £25 per 45 minutes for an actual lesson with her.

She's very good and its certainly useful to have her sit on them frequently to tune them up

All the horses at my sister's yard are on full livery. There is no extra cost for training, exercising or lessons with the yard "pro". If you want another instructor that is fine, but you obviously would have to pay the instructor.

hmmm interesting. I'm thinking of offering to ride a few once twice a week, but was not sure of the going rate.

good lord £70!! wow I'll ride it for £50! LOL!

My best friend who is a professional rider does my mare for me if i'm sick or during the summer when i was injured and couldn't just leave the mare off work. he does it for me for free but in return i act as his "PA" which believe it or not he does occassionally need!! its great though as my mare can be very funny with new people but he has persevered to get her to adapt to th etwo of us. even now he still sits on her once every week or two while i'm riding just to stay tuned in to her.

For schooling and hacking £20 for one hour! I think it is very reasonable - the rider more than is competant.

If i remember you're the equivalent of a list 2 rider? Which is the same as our yard manager. As I said she charges £15 but thats only to people on livery. Theres very very few people she will travel to now but i know she charges more (plus petrol costs obviously). Her immediate "client list" if you like just get discounts as she has certain commitments to them in regards to training.

Consider also that Im in Derbyshire so things are generally a bit cheaper. I know when people have posted livery costs in the past, my full livery doesnt cost me *that* much more than a lot are paying for DIY in the london area :P

ETS that *is* training not general schooling and she wont hack out for people. I'll ask her when i go up shortly to get the exact price of what shes charging none liveries

I do, always have done! In UK I had a top class dressage trainer, giving me lesson once a week - £60 an hour!! Crazy price.

Now in Spain, I have possibly one of the best trainers I could ever afford, hes German and worked with all the top names in Germany for many years, trained olympic teams and was sponsored by Opel (Vauxhall) for years and he only charges €35 - about 25 pounds an hour!!!! In UK would NEVER have been able to afford him.

So I train/get him to ride my horses between 3 and 5 times a week!!!

And he is also in the process of trying to get me to become a professional rider - being paid about €25 an hour!!

very proud!!

I charge £10 for a 30 -45mins schooling session. But only to liveries on the same yard as me and to fit around when I do mine, so no travelling. I also expect the horse taked up and ready. I am also insured to do this on a commercial basis, very important these days!

My instructor sometimes rides the horses and she charges the same as for a lesson, £10 for ½ hour or £20 for an hour. She does what you ask her too whether that be hack out or school.

DressageSpain you're so lucky!!

Tierra, Yes Group 2 level rider.. I might offer sort of the same and see how it goes. For a training session $15 to the ones at the same Yard, and to others a bit more plus petrol..

I charge £10 to friends and £15 for other clients.
Considering having to put it up to £15 for all but that probs wont happen as I dont want to lose rides.

I ride 2 horses at my yard for their owners. One of them I get paid £5 to hack and the other one I get £5 to school him for about 20/30mins. My preferred method of making money is clipping, I charge much less than everyone else but still think it's good money for very little work.

My instructor does £10 for 1 hour...hacking/schooling/jumping...what ever we ask for! She is very experienced and trustworthy so we are lucky

I'm on part livery and this means that if I can't come up one night one of the girls on the yard will lunge Louis. My YO who is also my instructor normally charges £20 to school but he rides Louis once a wk when I can't make it up instead of one of the girls lunging him and doesn't charge...I've never questioned why he doesn't charge but I think he just likes schooling Louis so it works nicely all around!

If i'm away a friend of mine (who also teaches) rides Louis and in return I take her to competitions for free occasionally on Louis and on one of the other horses she ex.

Hmmm am on full/schooling livery so my boy is ridden or lunged 6 times a week - I pay €150 a week (about £100) and full livery with no schooling is €120 so riding works out in theory at €5 a ride....in practise though when my old YO or sick or couldn't ride she would pay people €10 a ride (usually about 40 mins) if she needed something ridden
