Do you have to be 21 to take trailer towing test ?
Somebody mentioned this in a previous post , i have booked up my training and they never mentioned that but them i never gave my birth date either , Its not for a while yet i will have to dig out the info and ask them if know one knows
Thankyou !

I'm not sure...I know when I took my trailer test (I was 23 I think) the instructor said people who've only just passed their normal driving test found it easier to do the trailer test as they haven't had time to pick up bad habits...so I presumed he meant 17 yo who have just started driving, but I had a feeling you had to be 21.

Ring the DSA.

If it is the Licence category C1 (7.5ton) test then:

"If You Passed Your Car Test After January 1997 And Want To Drive A Vehicle In This Category You Will Have To Meet The Medical Requirements, Apply For Provisional Category C1 or C (If You Are Over 21) Entitlement, and Pass The LGV Theory Test Before Taking a Driving Test In a Vehicle This Size."

I think C1 applies to 7.5ton only think B+E is the trailer test so age prob different.....my mistake (Sorry!)

you know what is really stupid? because the trailer is not determind by size but weight, you can tow an empty trailer without this license, or if you have a super leight weight you might just get away with a pony as well. slightly daft.

or if you have another driver with you that did pass their test before 1997, just slap on some L plates and off you go.

I was about 8 months pregnant at 1997, so unfortunatly passed my test after the cut off date. I just take my hubby or mum and drive around with plates on. As a saftey thing i always take a driver with me anyway.

My friend hasnt taken her trailer test she is 22, because towing one horse with her trailer she is in the correct weight! so if you only plan to tow one it might be worth seeing how heavy your trailer and horse is together.

I have a feeling my friend falls into that category as well, she has a small 4WD and a small-ish trailer and I think she might be legal without the test. There's some weight limit that your MAM mustn't exceed I think.

It doesn't matter the weight you tow...its the MAM of the trailer that counts. So unless its a really lightweight single trailer with a low MAM and a lightish car they won't be legal.
