As title really!

What is insured? How much does it cost? Is it through your horse/home insurance? How is your tack room secured? Locks/alarms etc? Have you made a claim?

I'm just interested as mine isn't and im thinking about calling my horse insurance company to see about getting it covered

Just phone them and discuss as every company is different! Mine is on my horse insurance. You insure the cost of the saddle as new. With nfu it's forceful or violent entry has to occur in order for a claim to be valid. Costs me about £8 per month Inc other items of tack up to £200.

I have mine insured as part of my horse insurance. Insured for up to £1000.00 as my saddle was new and specially fitted to my boy. It's insured if stolen from a tack room kept locked with a five lever mortice lock or if stolen from a securely locked vehicle. Some damage is covered but not wear and tear.

Mine isn't insured because the insurers required a certain type of lock, which our yard doesn't have. I have a Thorowgood saddle, so although I wouldn't be happy if it was stolen, it wouldn't be a total disaster.

If you keep.it at home its covered on.house but can.be left out of the house up to 28 days a year and still be covered.

We had left ours over night at the yard as we had ridden that evening and had a hack planned the next morning. Got a.call from a friend at six thirty am.the next morning the tack room.door was busted open and all the tack was gone.
25 sets in our room and about that or a bit more in the other one

One of mine was on my house insurance at my previous address, but they wouldn't cover my Wow as they had a limit of £2k per item.

While I was at livery and before i kept my tack at home, I had it covered for about £100 per year, on top of my usual horse insurance policy. It had to be secured behind mortice lock, locked windows etc. Because I couldn't guarantee that the door would be locked at all times while there were people on the yard, I also had my saddles inside a metal tack cabinet, bolted to the floor with 2 additional padlocks fitted! KBIS told me that would be OK as could prove forced entry, and the tackroom door was always locked when there was no one on the yard.

Nowadays my tack is at home in locked & alarmed tackroom. I'm thinking of getting it put back on my horse ins again now.

i have mine on my house insurance as the tack room is part of the house. ive got quite a few decent saddles so the insurance is for 'tack' up to a certain amount which covers the value of all the saddles bridles etc i have in there. ive got the tack as a names item as its over the limit for items you dont have to delare.

My tack was stolen from a locked building. A Essex refused to pay out unless I could give them receipts for all the items. I had kept the receipt for the saddle, but not the irons, leathers, bridle etc. They made me feel like a criminal.
In the end I claimed from my house insurance and direct line were fabulous, I had a cheque in days and they claimedmoney back from south essex.
Now I just leave my tack inside my house.

I had mine insured for three years, but then I found out that as I share a tack room with more than 5 people, the security isn't up to standard, so I took it off (which was a shame, because my turnout rugs were actually covered while on the horse, out in the field!).

It doesn't really bother me that much though - the barn's quite damp in winter. I've got a synthetic saddle that I picked up cheap from a car boot and I found a webbing bridle when I was sorting out some stuff, so they stay at the yard and my good saddle and bridle stay at home, covered on my contents insurance. I think it's all covered on my car insurance as well if I'm transporting it to and from yard/shows.

As you know, I had 7 saddles and shed loads of assorted stuff nicked last year. Home insurance paid out around 4.5k to cover it. I now just have one dressage saddle (and the money, resting in my account, to get another Flyover before the devils stopped making them) and it lives at home and only goes up the yard to ride.

All our tack is covered on our home insurance without extra cost. We've had to claim for stolen tack once and they paid out with no problem - even to the extent of replacing the minutiae in a tack box. No receipts of anything. It can depend on your insurance though - the cheaper versions, ones from supermarkets etc might be more restrictive.
