However, I keep the fact I even own a horse from my entire family except my daughter! My mother and sister would worry (because of my past health) and disapprove as I'm on a low income. My brother probably wouldn't but he might forget it's a secret and tell our mum. She's 83 and I've given her enough to worry about in my life already.

this has made my day!!

Even I don't know how much I spend on the horses. This is my year of self control. I am going to bring the pony up to live with me and get a (secret) TB at about easter time I think. That way I am in complete control as to how much I spend, when and on what.

At the moment I am paying for my sister's horse and travelling 260 miles every weekend to see the horses. That will stop very shortly and I am going to have a ball!!

hehe, yep thats me too, i don't hide the costs from hubby though, i just don't know them to tell him but he has a fair idea. he is friends with the farmer where i livery so we're usually together when livery and hay bills are paid. He can't think it's too bad as he's just agreed that i can get another!!!!:D:D

Haven't added up livery, feed, farrier, insurance, competition fees etc as I don't think I want to know let alone tell OH.

I did buy some boots (for me) cheaply in the sale recently and then asked OH to buy me some boots online using his credit card. He then thought my new sale boots were the online buy and not the Sports Medicine horse boots! Didn't lie to him just didn't correct him :D ;)

Mum knows, dad would have a cardiac arrest if he knew so he's on a need to know basis and he certainly doesnt need to know.
OH and i dont really talk about it, but he knows i should think. He doesnt mind, as long as im happy. And he loves my colt!

No. My OH has a card for my account and as he's in town more than me, he often goes and picks up my feed, or something I like the look of, or get my livery money for the month out etc.

My 2 good-doers don't cost much and when I was contemplating buying a second horse, I wrote down the costs of the current horse and he was more than happy for me to get another. Although it is my qwage that goes on the ponies, if I had a large vet bill, I may need to ask him to help me out so I'd rather be up-front from the start.

Although non-horsey, he can appreciate why I spend so much time with my beasties, as he's seen her go from virtually non-handled to a well-mannered, very friendly pony. Being involved - even slightly - in that difference has made him start to glimpse at the ponies from my POV.

With regards my family, they are non-horsey and not interested in my ponies except to occassionally ask if they're behaving so there's no reason to go into how much they cost, although if they asked, I would be honest. :)

Well i don't have a partner, but do from my mum!
Coming from a non-equine family they have no ideas of cost so when i think i've got a bargin and just have to share, they quite often disagree!:p
If i told my mum how much i spend on her we would not be amused!:D

I don't tell myself what it all costs, let alone him indoors. If he asks the reply is always the same - a fiver !

Been at it for 35 years so if I added it all up I could have retired years ago. Don't drink, don't smoke, rarely holiday and biggest treat was a trip to War Horse in London.

My view is enjoy horses while you are fit, able and can afford them, who knows whats round the corner.

Nope, its all my money I spend on it, so nothing to do with him really - not that I am extravagant. But then my OH is into mountain bikes, so much so he bought a bike on ebay in Edinburgh, so on sat night we drove up there so he could spend £1k on a bike ;)

I don't mind - its his money, he also goes on a biking holiday every year - I don't go on a horsey one, although this year I am tempted! :)

Pretty much the same situation really, except it's all his money we spend on the horses :-D

Mine's retired and we have a couple of rescue ponies and daughter's FR at home, which just about equals the number of mountain bikes he has in the garage. His attitude is that he earns it to provide for the family and he trusts me. I buy everything on the joint card and run all the finances, but its only his earnings that get spent, mine go to savings. I am currently looking for a new riding horse for me,which he keeps telling me to go get, so think he must be looking for another new MTB.

I hide a little from my parents, I always pretend lorry hire is half as cheap and show fee's too. Pay it out of my own money and save stress and arguments!
