Don't have a happy hacker atm, but have done in the past and had insurance on them.
Don't see why you wouldn't tbh - unless you are one of those people who puts money into an account every month instead of paying for insurance, but people who do that do it regardless of what their horse does.
I can see why you would scale down insurance for a happy hacker - for example no LOU, but they still need vets cover if they become ill (unless you are lucky enough to be able pay x thousand on demand!), third party liability etc.
You still have to be insured for public liabilty if you go out on the roads. Incase you have an accident with a motor vehicle etc. I do anyway, and vet bills.
I'm a BHS Gold member so have third party liability through that. I dont' insure for anything else having had serious problem with insurance companies in the past, legs getting excluded, not being able to prove it's accidental blah blah blah. I self insure, got a pot of savings that I keep for any serious vets bills. Then again my girl is going on 24 and I would never consider putting into surgery no matter what so the bills should never be too huge...£5k max
Yes i have all mine insured even my minnie shettie who is a companion . Vet bills are just as dear for him as they are for a shire horse luckily i have never claimed on any of them for anything but the reassurance is there if ever i did have a illness with one of them. Mind you i proberly would have many thousands in the bank if i had just banked the money over the years.
Yes I'm mainly a happy hacker with a bit of riding club stuff and I'm insured for all eventualities! My experience of horses is that stuff happens so would prefer to be covered.
Absolutely as my pony is worth as much to me as an expensive competition horse and I don't want to be in the situation where I have to think twice about having the vet out due to expensive vets bills. Vets bills for happy hacker are just as expensive as they are for a competition horse.
I do some RC club activities and showing on him as well but we mainly hack out.
I have my happy hacker insured as are the shetlands but none are insured for vets would cost an extra £1000 a year to have them all covered for vets, so try and put so much aside each month in case of something happens.
