Do you insure your horse I have always along with my Trailer on the same policy where as my friend do's not she said she would rather pay for it if anything happens and keep the monthly sub for other things.

All 3 of mine are insured and i have claimed well over 8 grand one one in the last year so without it she would have been pts or keeped in a field for rest of her life as no way i could come up with that sort of money.

I insure mine. Although the insurance is alot (about £300 a year with no loss of use for my mare), it takes so little to rack up a bill that size with the vets! I would just rather she was insured for peace of mind so that if something horrible were to happen then I know that I wouldn't have to worry about finding the funds too.

She is silly not to insure for third party claims, whether you insure for vets fees is a personal thing. If your horse becomes ill, the costs can rack up really, really fast and if you have no way to pay, you have to face the decision to pts a horse that could possibly be fixed. Maybe your friend has access to a pot of money in this circumstance.

No. I have a floating population and it would be horrendous keeping up with it, emergencies get covered as and when, if the prognosis is good, but I have a limit.

Third Party is covered under the Farm insurance as horses are classed as agricultural animals.

I am insured and he is insured, including vets bills. I cannot imagine the thought of having to have my horse PTS because I could not afford to treat him if something very serious happened. And that would be AFTER I'd sold the house and car ! I pay £24 a month and wouldn't dream of not doing so.

I also insure both my dogs - my 2 year old lab suffered a near fatal kidney failure in April, and had to be hospitalised for two weeks. The bill was horrific, but the insurance paid all but the excess. Now that would have been a sell - the - car situation if he wasn't insured.

i couldnt sleep if my horse wasnt insured!!!!!!! No way coulde i afford the huge bills ive heard other peopel have when their horses are ill and injured.
If my horse was ill i would nto want to be worrying about the cash too.
Im with petplan and its £48 pcm - totally worth the peace of mind it brings me.

 You'd put your family on the street for a horse?!

Yes she is insured for Public liabilty, Vets fees and tack. Her covers her for competiton, hunting and general hacking, schooling ect.

I would worry to much if I didnt have it, what you have an accident when travelling or your horse runs of and injures someone or something at a show or out hacking and your sued.!
To risky plus my tack is worth a lot of money so I have to insure that too.

I had one vet bill one for old boy which was £2k which was when I didnt insure (years ago) and since then I insure.

As I have only one, yes and thank God. My last one was insured too or I would have had to pay out over £5000. I'm not strict enough with myself to have a monthly sub put away for vet's fees.

Yes wouldnt be without it after all the problems i had with my old girl before she died. I could never afford the vets bill's as they can go through the roof depending on what wrong. Im also with petplan and it hink i pay £46 pcm

My horse is covered for third party liability on our household policy, I'm covered with the BSJA as well.

However I don't have vets cover, my horse is seventeen now, and I probably wouldn't put her through major surgery at her age and the money I've saved monthly not paying premiums goes towards a vet fund.

Yep, definitely have insurance. I also wouldn't be good enough to put away a pot for just in case and I only need one incident to make it all worth while. Plus he's only 3 so plenty of time for him to get in mischief, though I hope he doesn't!

Thats what i do with my 19yr old cob. I have 3rd party cover from WHW membership and i pay £35 a month into an ISA so if he were to need anything, the funds are there. I already have a colic operation saved thanks to last 2 years bonus at work.

Dex is insured with AIMS very reasonably- £3k inc vets fees for £25 a month- bargain :)

Oh God yes, all four of mine are insured - even the oldie, every time I have even thought of cancelling and putting the money aside. something catastrophic happens, last year Sirena broke her splint bone and the vet's bill was equivalent to 5 years premiums for all 4
