I was talking to my (non horsey) brother today, about why he's scared of horses.

He said he's scared because they're so big, and when they move he doesn't have warning.

It made me think that maybe horsey people can just 'feel' it? Like, when you're bent over grooming tummies, you can sense the muscles tensing to move, with enough time to happily move out the way. Even when my lot spook, I can feel it coming and move before I get squashed!

Are you just aware of their movements before they move? xx

Yes, I think I am mostly.

Although I don't know if I'd feel differently about horses other than my own, as I don't really spend that much time with any other than B.

Actually, come to think of it, when I bring in my friend's psychopathic huge horse, I kind of know what he's up to too, so maybe I do know!!

I suppose it's like spending enough time with anything/animal - you just sort of get to know their "ways".

Well i have worked with and owned horses forever and you dont realise it until you take someone who is totally non horsey up to meet them just how much you take for granted how to 'be' around horses.
I can totally read them without thinking about it.

I like to think I can "read" my horses but obviously wasn't fast enough the other day when untying my oldie and he swung his head round so fast he smacked me in the face, catching me with the headcollar buckle. I've got a wonderful purple eye!

Captain has the most expressive face that changes quickly with his mood so you get a warning when he is going to be a g*t. Also he will brace himself for the smack, he has been badly abused in the past, so he knows he is going to be told off but is still an a*rse!

Fany never does anything nasty.:D

yep you feel and know - even a strange horse i watch and "listen " to the horse and guess its from experience you can read whats coming and react however you need to .

My brother is the same - he wont even stroke them; he thinks my gelding is too crazy and our mare will just slobber all over him .. to put it simply he just doesn't have a horsey mind.
I think I 'just know' too, either that or my horses are just entirely predicable, but I can feel/see when he's going to move and know when he's bored of having his tail brushed, or when the mare is going to bite my bum when rugging her up and when she's ready to be turned out and is going to 'throw' her lead rope at me :)

I think it depends how long you've been a horsey person... riding since i was in mummy's tummy defo helps out! I can often tell what the horse is gonna do before it does it which is great when riding a "problem" horse!! I love it tho, i think if any of u guys get the same thing, you really feel at one with the animal even if it is behaving badly. It's almost like a gift
OK i'll stop rambling now but just to finish......
I love my horses even the ones that haven't turned out the way I wanted :) xx

Definitely. Just think how often novices get their feet trodden on. I hven't been trodden on for years (bound to now of course!).
