Do you keep in touch with previous horses owners?

I brought my horse from a dealer, but managed to track down the girl who used to compete with him at his previous stables. We are now in contact via Facebook so she oftens sees photos and hears news of him. She was very glad when I found her as she had no idea what had happened to him once the yard sent him to the horse dealer. I think it really put her mind at rest to know he has a good home, and from my point of view I was able to ask her loads of questions about him. Worked out well for us.

Yes, I’m friends with her on FaceBook. She is a dealer but seems to like hearing about all the stuff I do with Bodey as she always ‘likes’ or comments on my statuses and photos. :D

Yes - I send my horses old owner photos 2 or 3 times a year and we always exchange Xmas cards saying how our respective horses are doing. The lady that bought my old cob off me does the same and have even been invited over to see him.
Suppose it depends on the circumstances, and how much the previous owners are attached to the horse!

Nope, saw her a few times when she was doing her stages and came to training days at our yard, but haven't seen her for 5/6 years. I don't even have a phone number for her, and as far as I can tell she's not on Facebook.

Nope, she was a total b*tch that fed me a pack of lies. Plus, she lives in Wales so I'd never come across her anyway. She sells quite a few horses so I don't think I'd buy from her again!

This is my first post so please tell me if I am doing wrong, hijacking the post etc. I would love to trace my horses previous owner but only have what is in his passport, 1 address and I bought him from a dealer who knew "nothing" except that he came from Ireland, what would/did others put in a letter, I have tried google etc to no avail and am nervous of just saying I have got **** what can you tell me about him. I suspect he basically came off a hill with some others and was sold to the dealer.

i never used to unless they were friends beforehand but they usually add me on facebook so sort of i guess!

Bought Bella from a dealer, but we are trying to contact her breeders/last home in ireland to see if we can find out what she's done before as the dealer bought her from auction there so doesn't know anything either :(

I'm not sure what info you get in a passport, but I have my horses papers with his blood line and sire number. I googled his sire number which is how I found out where he had competed, then contacted the stables. Then googled again and found the girl talking about him on a forum with photos from a comp. The rest is as they say history....

No for both of them. Though I do vaguely know of bean's old owner as she is on this forum, and I was on the same yard as her dad for a while... No for Lady, she only had her 6 weeks from Ireland, L was a import to sell, so not like a beloved pet :p I know who she is on horsemart, and think I still have her number, so might drop her a text to let her know how she's getting on, but probably not, I don't believe she was 100% honest with us...

I've not got my new girl to her new yard yet, she's still with old owners (hopefully only til sun!) but i've had a few lessons on her with them (qualified instructors as also own riding school) and we've arranged for them to come down once a fortnight to carry on the lessons.

i do try to.
i dont think she is that interested though despite asking me to keep in contact.

he was unhandled and didnt lead when i got him, and she visited a couple of weeks after i got him home and she watched him follow me across two large fields and then stand to have a headcollar on and be led in. she asked someone 'does he always follow her about like that' and when they said 'yes' she looked miffed and didnt directly speak to me again lol.
i link her to pictures on facebook but she has never commented or 'liked' or anything, so i dont even know if she looks tbh. but i carry on because she did ask me to.
although, i have heard she regrets selling him now though, as he turned out better than expected :D

No for my first horse as owner lied and gave fake details didnt give a dam about pony just wanted rid of her, however got in contact with only name in the passport and send pics and updates to her and have brought my dream pony from her and she has shown pony for me and still keep in regular contact. Last of my ponies is from a charity so should get home visits from them to make sure she is ok etc have pics of her and plan to take her to their show for everyone to see what a fab shetland she is and is not naughty think she has just been misunderstood.

yes even people I loaned off.
My newest horse s previous owner has moved to our yard we ride together go to shows and generally help each other all the time.
I keep in contact with new owner of my young horse that I put out for companion he was lame and we thought he would never come sound enough to ride.SHe is now hacking out bareback on him in bitless bridle big deal you might say but hes 8 yr old ex sprinter lol.He just needed easier life:D

I definately do and she sees George once a fortnight......because she is my instructor :D

I'd never met her when I bought George, but when I tried him she mentioned something about teaching, and as I was looking for an instructor and really liked her I asked if she would mind. So here we are 3 years later and she has done wonders for my riding and confidence :)

My daughter keeps in touch with the owners of the last 3 of her ponies (even after the first one of those was put down - but then they were old family friends anyway!). I think that they mainly email and also via facebook.

We tried to keep in touch with new owners of her 12.2hh that we sold about 3 years ago, but apart from a couple of emails very early on and then one last year when they were going to sell him and asked me if I would talk to potential purchasers if they wanted more background on the pony (which never happened), we haven't heard anything and have no idea where he is now - sad really as daughter would love to know what has happened to him!

I bought Lacey off someone on the forum which means she can see how we are getting on. We're also friends on facebook.
This post has reminded me to send her a message to update her!

I keep in touch with the people I sold my horses too. I'm friends on facebook with the person who bought prince (and she's friends with my instructor) and the person who I sold george too keeps him with a member on the forum so can keep updated that way. They're both kept very locally so we can pop in and see them for ourselves aswell :)

Yes and update at begining to say both settled in well and then only when something of interest happens.

People who bought my gelding have become wonderful friends and we talk nearly every week and they became like an extended family. Sadly we have now moved away but we still chat for hours on the phone :)

yep I do. Well I bought my first horse from my aunty so kind of had to but sold him in September. He moved from me in Wales to Edinburgh and I am still in touch with owener who sends me updates every coupe of months or so. I have also been to visit him. Likewise I sent Ollie's previous owner updates and also in touch through facebook :-)

When I bought my little sec A for my son I got his WPCS registration certificate. It had the breeder's address on it, so I wrote to her and she (older lady judging by the writing) sent me a lovely letter back about her mare, and included a photo of him as a foal. It was quite a shock to see as his coat is pure white now, but he was skewbald when he was born (you can see the different coloured skin when he has a bath). She was very pleased to hear from me, and you have nothing to lose so give it a go!!

P.S. Welcome to the forum!! There are lot's of lovely people here, and I have learnt a lot since being on here. :)

Well I send them updates on Genie, but don't always get a reply. However when the do reply they seem interested and pleased to hear from me!! If I ever sold I would like to know how my horse was doing...

The same has happened to us, I don't understand why people promise to keep in touch and then don't, it gutting. We sold a mare last year and had the initial contact but no more, why? I've tried to get in touch but, nothing :(
She was a lovely mare, could do not wrong, thought she would be better off in her new home, how wrong can you be? Here she is, her official name is 'Baby', stable name Shandy, she went to the Forest of Dean..

I keep in touch with the person who had my mare on loan for many years (she came home to retire) and send updates / photos to the people I bought my kids ponies from. One in particular was sold to me because I could offer a long term home so I think it only fair to let her old owners know how she's doing.

i dont keep in touch with taz's owners mainly because they told me a pack of lies to me about him and at the time they were good friends and i cant forgive them for that and mollys owners are on our yard so we see them every once in a while
