Do you keep in touch with previous horses owners?

I do send my horse's old owner the odd e-mail and photo if only to rub his nose in how well she looks and is doing as he never did right by her other than to sell her!

This is my first post so please tell me if I am doing wrong, hijacking the post etc. I would love to trace my horses previous owner but only have what is in his passport, 1 address and I bought him from a dealer who knew "nothing" except that he came from Ireland, what would/did others put in a letter, I have tried google etc to no avail and am nervous of just saying I have got **** what can you tell me about him. I suspect he basically came off a hill with some others and was sold to the dealer.

I did this nt long ago and wrote letters to 2 previous owners in passport both were in ireland, i heard from the guy who broke her and started her the day he received the letter he was really pleased to hear from me, also heard from other previous owner few weeks later and also she very pleased to hear about the horse, both chat to me via facebook, i just politely asked for information on my horse.
I bought from a dealer who new nothing about her, i nw have a full history which is soo helpful.

I bought mine from her breeder and we e-mail occasionally, I sent her a christmas card with an update in, then it all went a bit 'wrong' at this end and I sent Bids away for 6 weeks to get her going again and get my brain in gear again!! I did tell her some of the tale when she e-mailed me 2 weeks ago. Fortunately I could tell her loads of good stuff has happened since Bids returned. I can follow her rider on BE website if I want to. I'm going to Trailblazers finals and her breeder has said she would love to come to Stoneleigh and see her. I'm pleased she is still interested.

Thank you for the replys, I will have to bite the bullet and write a letter.

Nope, I honestly think she hated him lol. She didn't lie about him, but she constantly pointed out his bad bits (most of these weren't even true anyway!)- while trying to sell him :S

Then 6 months later she arrived at my yard with her new horse, was meant to be in the stable next to me, but asked to move :S .... she moved yards again 2 weeks later. lol

Her loss is truly my gain, he's a bit grumpy but I wouldn't change him for the world.

I kept in touch with my late mares owner. I used to update her about every 6 months via e mail with about a hundred pics and stories of what we had been up to. At first I think she was interested but at the end I dont think she cared one iota! She rarely sent a reply and if she did it was just asking me to plug her horse business to my friends lol.

Current horse is on loan so I do update facebook really regularly so she knows whats going on. I also post on here pictures ect so she can read on here too. When I buy him she'll still be friends on my fb so she will know all about everything.

I like keeping in touch with old owners its nice :)

Saying that my friend worked as a dealer. She imported expensive warmbloods from abroad and sold them for tons of dosh. She told me she found the updates from new owners really irritating! Mainly because she would have only had the horse for a week or two and didnt really care about the horse at all. The only horse she did care about (one of her own she had for a few years) she made the new owner promise to update her and the new owner never did! My friend said it was really ironic that the only horse she cared about she didnt hear a thing about and the others who she couldnt give a toss she had loads of updates about.
Therefore if I brought from a dealer I wouldnt bother updating them, maybe just one update for their testimonial page if I thought they were good but other than that nothing. Id try and find previous owners instead :)

I have kept in touch with all people I've sold horses to - all of them keep me updated with the occassional email or I email them nown and again. Usually people are more than happy to brag about how well they're doing and I'm always glad to hear!

I haven't kept in touch with any of the people who I've bought horses from though. I always start off keeping them updated as the horse settles in but it fizzles out and none of them have ever really shown much interest for me to stay in touch. I still have the contact details of the person I bought my current horse off, but all others I don't.
