Seems my lovely yard is sold and is to close imminently. I need to find a new one and whilst I have some ideas I have moved house since I first found my yard and don't know any yards in my new area and if I have to move I want to reduce my travelling distance. However potentially moving with friends so wider search area.

So I need ideas for yards around Durham City or from there going south of Durham down as far as Sedgefield/ Ferryhill sort of area.

I hope someone has some ideas for me!!

Thanks

It depends what facilities you are after really!
There are afew yards on the plawsworth estate with different levels of facilities i *think*
Ivesley is lovely...
there is also a yard on the way into langly park that often holds BSJA i've heard they take on liveries.

There are plenty more but it's late and my brain has stopped working! feel free to PM me, i have good and bad stories from most yards in the area.

BTW which yard is closing?

Hi thanks for the reply, I've sent you a pm.

With regards to facilities, I'm can be a bit flexible with what I can cope with, I just need options. As a group we need everything from grass to full. Things I MUST have are an arena and a stable that is sufficiently large for a big horse. I have other requirements too but I can work around some things. I just want a nice yard where my horse can settle and I can work him.

Before moving to Leicestershire I was at Nicholsons at Plawsworth, they had four yards on the estate and if liveried there you have access to all the arenas at all the yards, three yards are DIY and one is run (or was run) by Ingrid and offers full livery only. You have off road hacking on the estate with xc fences. Each yard had an arena with lights, one has a small indoor.

Another yard is Union Hall, hacking from there was not so good and when I was there they only had the indoor school but I believe they now have an outdoor as well, they offered DIY, part and full.

Think there is also Holmside Park and Holmside Hall but it is over ten years since I lived in the area, there could be more yards now.

Another vote for Union Hall - good facilities and run by lovely people. I also find that farriers have a good knowledge of yards in the area - might be worth asking yours. Good luck

A friend had a couple of horses at union hall afew years ago. Good facilities and ok hacking but found the yard was not the friendliest of places (inc ppl who worked there).
