Afternoon all!

Have been on the look for London liveries for a friend again, and I've found a couple though several have minimal information about themselves and so was hoping someone on here might know them and could give an idea of price as well as your opinion?
• Ham Polo & Livery
• Woodhurst Farm Livery
• Vicarage Farm Livery
• Lower Morden Equestrian Centre

• Batchworth heath farm and livery
• Bushey hall farm
• Batchetts farm equestrian
• Bucks meadow
• Harts farm stables
• Rose hall farm
• Cripps house farm
(found these last few on riding-schools.com so have virtually no information on them - if anyone could help out?)

Thank you very much xx

Can be a tough ask finding ones with decent turnout, hacking, facilities and close enough to public transport in the area. As you’ve probably already found! I only know a few of the ones below somhave commented below. I have better knowledge of the Herts area although I live in north London. Have gone further and further out for the right yard! You’ve got a range of locations below so maybe ask on here or the regional boards for recommendations based on those rough areas? Good luck!

• Ham Polo & Livery - only been here for polo matches and assume it’s connected to that facility. Suspect will be v posh and expensive but it’s in a fairly built up area so hacking and turnout may be a challenge.
• Woodhurst Farm Livery - know some people here and they seem happy with it. Decent facilities. Hacking I heard is tricky as it has a very busy main road. Although there Keith be a few yards with the same name so not sure I have the right one!
• Vicarage Farm Livery - I think they have good hacking here and know people who use the gallops there. Don’t know about the livery arrangements.
• Lower Morden Equestrian Centre

• Batchworth heath farm and livery
• Bushey hall farm
• Batchetts farm equestrian
• Bucks meadow
• Harts farm stables
• Rose hall farm - vaguely know of this one, haven’t heard anything bad and do remember coming across a livery from there who liked it.
• Cripps house farm

Needs to be accessible by public transport but apart from that, she's willing to commute.

Rose Hall Farm is definitely out then and I would also rule out Batchworth Heath Farm as it is a fair way from the Metropolitan line stops at either Moor Park or Northwood.

Vicarage Farm closed a few years ago I'm afraid.

They were active on fb very recently as a yard nearby had strangles and they were posting that the gallops were closed - now reopened. Don't know anyone there though to comment.

I would say about Woodhurst that it is a tricky walk from the train station. There is no pavement and it's a busy road. I borrowed a friend's horsebox and dropped it off after dark and it wasn't fun walking down to Crews Hill. And I do public transport and walk on country lanes in all conditions so am not easily intimidated.

It very much depends on where your friend lives, a yard may be near a main line but getting to the right line can be a pain as you cross London.

There is the line that goes up to St Albans from St Pancras through West London. There are a few in Radlett and Borehamwood on that line that can be done by public transport though may involve a bus ride at the end.

Then the lines from Moorgate that go up to Potters Bar or Hertford, there are possilbities around there.

If they are looking North then fb Groups North London Horse Riders and Hertfordshire Horse Riders might be a good place to start.

Thank you very much! Just had a look on Google Maps and definitely doesn't seem like the kind of walk you want to be doing at 9pm in the winter.

Ah, thank you! Looking back, not quite sure why I even had Rose Hall Farm on the list - it seems to be a couple hours out.

I have been at two of the yards on your list - if you PM me I can tell you about them. One was a good experience, one was absolutely awful and I’d never set foot there again.

Sadly many yards in the area have been bought by developers. As Op says, there are several in Radlett - Hill Farm, Blackbirds, Little Munden - with good facilities and hacking. Closer in there is Bury Farm in Edgware and ? Hilltop in Totteridge. Depends slightly on what type of yard they are looking for - DIY or part/full livery and facilities needed. Trent Park is a very short walk from the underground terminus at Cockfosters, and further out is Greenacres in Harpenden, which does a full range of livery, and is a mile or so from the main line railways station but there are buses running past it.

There are quite a few yards within half a mile/a mile of the train stations at Chessington South and Ashstead. Hacking's not bad. But for both the roads down from the yards tend to be unlit - not nice in winter.

Thank you for the suggestions - will go have a look now. She's looking for full (either the whole week or mon-fri) and doesn't mind too much about facilities as long as everyday turnout is possible.

Would I be okay to PM you about LEC? Have heard a lot of bad things so would be interesting to get a different perspective.

I've known a couple of people at lec and haven't heard anything horrific, however sharing facilities with a riding school isn't for everyone and that close into London hacking and turnout are very limited especially with the winters we've had.

Of the ones mentioned in Radlett, little Munden isn't accessible by public transport. Hill Farm and Blackbirds/model farm are if the buses I used to get from Radlett Station still run. One of my favourite areas in herts.

Do you know roughly how much turnout LEC offers - as in can you be assured for your horse to be turned out daily?

You'd need to ask someone that was there recently, the last couple of winters have been really bad with even yards that usually manage daily turnout shutting their fields. You need to bear in mind that North London and much of herts is in the London clay basin with soils that gets really deep and wet.
