Do you know when you're horses are going to be naughty!?!

Just a ponder really as I had a lesson on the naughty one this afternoon (16.3hh shire x cob), he was having to concentrate and also he wasn't listening to my leg so had a big pony club kick which got him moving ;-). Anyway he then about halfway through lesson decided that it was too much like hard work so let's whip round and bomb back to end of field by stables. Cue much laughter by me and instructor.

The point is that he always squeals before he does anything naughty so I have warning it's coming!!

Do yours give any warning??
 
yup rosc does one small leap forward(just to test the space) drops his bum to the floor for maximum leverage and shoots forward very funny just a like a little spring!
 
I can normally tell before I tack them up if they're in naughty mode and I prepare myself by lunging first and being on guard :p other than that no chance of knowing when as it happens so fast! (Pair or of lightening quick TB's to thank for that :D)
 
Nope, not with my stroppy little git. We were at a show on Sunday, and I've got a photo just five minutes (maybe less) than the Explosion which happened in the Fancy Dress ring; and he's standing there with his bottom lip hanging down like a plod, then as soon as we'd set foot in the ring it was like Vesuvious erupting. One of these days when he's yet again thoroughly embarrassed me in public I'm gonna ring kennels when I get home ....... promise not threat!!!! ;)
 
I know before I tack up what mood he's in, he as a very defient look on his face and is brain is else where, he's always thinking about what else is going on around him (as in the horses/mares), once he knows, he's all yours and good as gold.

If I know he's not going to listen at all, I don't get on, no point he'll just have me off in an instant, so I walk him round for a minute to get his attention back on me once he's stopped squeeling like a pig :rolleyes:and get him listening to me from the ground first and basically to calm him down a bit, usually does the trick, saves any accidents or battles...works for us.
 
A couple of years ago my old pony started p*ssing off across the field when I tried to bring him in or rearing. He'd do it so quickly and once he got moving there was no way I could hold him. Eventually, I learned to spot the "look" in his eye just before he did it and gave him a light pull on the leadrope and said "hey" and it was enough to knock him off course.

My other horse isn't naughty but I can tell when he's "primed" for an over-reaction of some sort as he tenses all over and grows by a hand or two. Only an idiot couldn't read the signs with him, lol.

I thought I did but was proved wrong last night!

Had to practically drag the ned out of field, and while he was being groomed and tacked up, his neck was up like a girraffe, his ears were backwards and forwards like a yo yo and he was having a little stomp around. He seemed very cross by me taking him away from his play mates.

Hence, I thought I was going to have a bit of trouble riding out with him and nearly canned the idea.

But, he was as good as gold.

And so quiet in fact that at one point I thought he was going to fall asleep walking - so evil me woke him up with a little trotting session! :D
 
Yes, they're breathing :D!!!

Horse no 1 is a skitterbouncer, goes everywhere at her own special pace and likes to shy, however she hesitates a micro second before she does it and growling 'get on with it' at her tends to do the job and past the 'demon' she will scuttle!

Horse no 2 is perfect 98% of the time and gives no idication of planning badness at all, which makes riding her a little scarey at times, wandering along, enjoying the ride, sun is shining, OMG A SCAREY DOCK LEAF MUST SHY, MUST SHY!!!! Dispite fact she went past same leaf yesterday :rolleyes:

Must say I find it easier to ride horse 1 as am always worrying on horse 2 'what is she going to do?!' no rime or reason to her!!!
 
my horse tenses, locks his neck and his jaw then drops his bum right to the floor, then you are in for a treat :) ahhhh i love my horse ;)
 
To an extent. I've actually recently had a bit of an epiphany. If I know the special one is about to buck, spook or generally fart about then I'll ride him through it and on we go. If he really throws the teddies out the pram then I have no warning - I simply find myself on the ground. Happily the latter is a rare occurrence. :D
 
I can always tell if he's in naughty mode because he stands up really tall with his ears pricked as if theres monsters all around him! And he snorts and blows like hes got flies up his nostrils or something then prances around when i try to tack him up. Generally lunge him first if hes like that.
 
Buffy gives me pleanty of warning, first she goes tense and I REALLY can't get my leg on.. THEN she grows a hand.. then about a minute later goes "OMFG!!!" so I can ride her through it.
Poutu my last one it would come out of nowhere.. literally..
 
Mine goes all coiled like a spring about to boing!

You can literaly feel him getting tighter and tighter, like electricity going up your bum hah :P He's still in walk too. I don't mind if he stays like this for the rest of the time. makes for an exciting ride, but usually he will then explode either upwards (as in all four feet) at those big leaves when he arrives at one on the side of the road or forwards in a stupid trot that is faster than his canter.....

The other one is a hesitater, constantly pausing like half halts every other stride....Then she will walk really really fast and leap to the side at 'monsters' that are not really there...
 
Ha! Yes, I have had my horse 16 years and know him pretty well. He is well behaved to be ridden pretty much always (although obviously can be livelier somedays than others). However, being lead he can be a s*d! He knows his own strength and although behaves 95% of the time you just know when he's going to try b*gger off - there is a 'look' in his eyes that I can't explain I just know it so am already pre-prepared. He will then try it on with a squeal and a shake of the head and an attempt to shoot off!

It's those times you realise actually how obedient horses are the majority of the time cos when and if they really want to muck about they make life quite difficult! My horse is 20 now andhe hasn't improved no matter what we've tried. It's a good job he's well behaved when you're on board!!! Lol
