Do you leave your dog outside barking?

No I do not allow H to bark in the garden. But then, he doesn't anyway!

I live at the end of a close, so the are gardens at 90 degrees to my front door. For the last 6 months there has been a GSD at that house and EVERY time I walk to my front door, or neighbors to their cars, in rushes to the fence barking. SO ANNOYING!! This afternon when it did it, I yelled "oh shut up!" at it!! Because of the nice weather it's owners must have been in the garden because I heard them then call it! good! They SHOULD know it's a PITA. Its a rented property and my OH is on the verge of finding out who their agent is and complaining!

My dogs bark at anyone going up or down the road but only in passing our house. We live outside the village so they are not a nuisance, I dont stop them and if it went on too long I would go see what was going on.

One house I lived in was next door to someone who kept 6 Shelties, it was impossible to enjoy our garden as everytime we went out there they barked constantly. As they were surrounded by other houses it meant they barked from morning to night, their owners were oblivious to our complaints.

Absolutely not!

I have 2 spaniels and as soon as I hear a peep out of any of them I am straight outside and get them in. They only go outside to go to the toilet anyway so they are never left out long enough to start making any kind of noise.

How do all you with silent dogs make them quite, my collie pup barks for about a minute with excitement when she is let out for 10pm walk. What are the rules about it, she doesnt bark every night but neighbour who lives 70metres away gets annoyed, don't know what she will do when sheep come in for lambing.

Not at all. If someones here I let it slip as theyre either excited or warning them/me of someones presence.

If its at nonsense they get an "OI" or a "RIGHTTTTTTTTTTT" and if they carry on its straight inside for them. I can't stand the sound of it and I doubt my neighbours can either

She and the others are kennelled as farm dogs and looks forward to walk so barks for few seconds whilst she has lead on and others let out then shuts up if two of us here she is quiet and getting better but neighbour doesn't like it we always walk her before 11pm,but was expected to put up with their noisy party till 1.30 on a sunday morning, what she doesn't realise lambing sheep are noisy when producing and they are housed as close as the dog. From January to April, move next to a livestock farm expect livestock noises.

Whoops, think you better tell her to order the ear plugs now. :D

I leave my back door open all day whilst i'm at work to let the dogs have access to the garden. Mil lives on one side so checks on them regularly. They do bark when they hear odd sounds outside, but when in and it goes on longer than a fews seconds I'll call them in. I have always asked neighbours if they do this during the day and the answer is not so they have noticed, however other neighbours teenage grandchildren failed to notice I'm on box rest, and last week I caught them leaning over the fence and barking back at the dogs, so they have no complaint there!

Never leave them barking if they start they are in straightaway. its how to teach them and it works.

People round the back of us have a dog that barks for hours its a golden retriever and they never send it in when it starts.

My Cane Corso barks if there is anything in the garden, which she has access to at all times, and if there is anyone out the front of our house. But that's what I have her for, the only time she gets told to be quiet is when my husband comes in the front door, yes she still barks at him, she is eight years old, and he works from home  The spaniels don't bark at all :)

We have a neighbour with 7 dogs that are constantly barking. Trouble is it infuriates my older girl and she has to bark back. Now the youngster has caught on that when other dogs bark she must reply!!!
If our dogs bark in the garden we bring them in but I'm mindful that they bark in response to the other dogs when they are inside the house as well. It is deafening and although we've tried many ways to try and stop it...so far we have failed miserably.
It is a major issue in our house as my partner finds it too difficult to live with day after day...
