Do you leave your girth buckled onto your saddle?

Hmm... I take my girth off completely and wash it each time, then it hangs somewhere to drip dry well away from the tack room.

This is such a funny thread :D... love seeing how we're all a bit set in our ways :D

I confess I'm one of those people who doesn't undo the girth! It gets slipped over the saddle. Obviously not if it's minging and in need of a wash, then I'll unstrap it and find a different one. I fear me and my horselet are the local scruffs of the neighbourhood - I did have a new year's resolution to tidy up our act this year but it slipped somewhere! I spent a silly sum on a lot of very nice horsey gear for me (to stop me from riding in whatever I found in the cupboard) and some new bits and pieces for the lady, and we looked very chic for all of about 3 weeks. I honestly don't know how other people manage to look so tidy, but perhaps it's one of those unstrapping your girth things I just haven't caught on to yet.

maybe some girths get dirtier than others? Mine is waffle/plastic so the mud rarely slips/a quick sponge before I take it back up to the house an dit is clean again.

I leave my long girth buckled on one side, but undo short girth completely (different saddles). More because it hangs down and annoys me if left on than any other reason, though :)

I always take the girth fully off. The saddle cover goes on, use a clean numnah, bit and girth cleaned and tack wiped over each time. I am a bit particular!

Those who change the saddlecloth every time, do you have a never ending supply of them? I use the same one as the horse is clean and change them weekly or fortnightly. Horse is hacked or schooled 5 out of 7 days.

Girth off, cover on saddle, girth cleaned if needed and put over the saddle. Saddlecloth changed when wet or dirty.

Bit warmed before use (with water during winter, hands will do otherwise) and washed off afterwards.
