I ride in a biothane endurance bridle that converts to a headcollar by unclipping the bit, so I can't remove the 'noseband' bit - it is fixed to the bridle, only the bit comes off. So, it doesn't do anything, but it doesn't do any harm - have competed long rides in hot weather without any rubs.
But then, my bridle is purple, which most people would probably thinks looks far worse than a leather bridle with no noseband
I don't really think it matters how it looks, as long as it isn't required or you might get marked down (show classes etc)
If you don't need it, why use it
I love seeing ponies without nosebands, I am a total convert to it now that I realise that Caverson nosebands (90%) of the time have no purpose whatsoever and, as has been said, can be unnecesarily restrictive.
To see a horse without a noseband says to me there is an owner using common sense over fashion. JMHO

They look a little strange to me and it would end up disqualifcation if used in one of our show classes .

But in an English saddle show/competition environment it is different isn't it? Nosebands are de rigeur for that, it's like a hairnet, you may not actually NEED one but it is still the done thing (or it used to be) unless you are a bloke of course (and some of them could sure do with one!)
Disqualification? Really? Do rules actually state that a noseband MUST be worn? Just curious here, as I have never been into more than PC showing, so even if the horse performed better than anything else it would still be booted out, and not just marked down because it wasn't properly dressed?
At home, as far as I am concerned, anything goes, and that is what I assume everybody else also feels, I am not trying to impress anyone, neither do I give a monkeys what they think of me if I happen to meet someone while I am out, they already think I am bonkers for wearing a helmet.
If I am showing a horse to sell, then yes, the tidy bridle comes out... but it still doesn't have a noseband

think it looks ugly without one, reminds me of pony club or something-sorry!

I dont think so, not at our PC anyway! - My daughter attended a rally without a nose band, the DC was very annoyed and shouted out 'who is that riding around like an Indian'
I explained she had no noseband on becase she had been kicked and had a big scab right where the caveson did up, so she was 'allowed' to continue.

I think no noseband looks a bit cool.

That should read daughters pony, although daughter doesnt wear a nose band either
I think some horses look really pretty without nosebands, Ellie for example! (Though she is really pretty anyway
)
Some horses can pull off the look and others can't. I used to have a big headed chunky cob who just looked silly without a noseband. My coloured warmblood who I have now IMO looks really cute without a noseband
I also once competed him without one in dressage as he had a bite where it went so didn't want it to rub him. I checked with the judge first that this was ok and they didn't mind. I do generally use a noseband for schooling my coloured but this is because he likes to get his tongue over the bit so needs a flash to stop him doing it. (The flash only has to be on loosely before anyone accusses me of tying my horses mouth shut).
I think people can be a bit pretentious about nosebands!
I didn't use a noseband for years - purely because I'm lucky in the sense that my boy doesn't need one as he doesn't cross his jaw etc. I did eventually get tired of him looking like a western pony so I bought him a hunter cavesson - he's a hunter pony so he looks much neater, although I won't deny that I only use it for cosmetic reasons
NO!!!!! I hate that look!! it's my pet hate lol....... it just makes the head look so long and plain (i'm not saying your horse is plain BTW - she isn't!!) but she looks so much nicer in a noseband..
