Do you like your horse's name?

My daughter's first pony was a little skewbald shetland that she named Macaroni - because of the nursery rhyme Yankee Doodle came to town, a riding on a pony, he stuck a feather in his hat and called it Macaroni. Daughter thought that was the pony's name. She was only 3 at the time! I had a horse called Copper Can - which really suited him because he was copper coloured and the kind of horse who when asked a question always said - I can!

I love Archie, it's cute and suits his cheeky leader of the gang attitude!

Although I couldn't decide between Archie and Alfie for ages! I like old fashioned people names for animals!

You wonder where people get some of these names-
I had a
Misty ok name but she was practically black!Old owner thought she WOULD go grey.Got to stage when people asked her name it would be 'Misty she's not grey' as people expected her to be.
Dog -shetland mare she used to follow you about like a dog when she was young(before we bought her) name just stuck.Did suit her tho as 9-10 hh.
Tequila -shortened it to Tikee as kept hearing that Tequila song in my head everytime I shouted for her.
Gladys - not keen on name doesn't really suit her a very pretty leggy warmblood I keep thinking of Les Dawson in drag!!(sorry if any Gladys out there!!)She knows it and we have now got used to it and usually just call her glad
All other ones don't mind.

My horse is called "shammar" I didnt choose the name and I hate it, I wanted to change it to whisper, but decided not to.

Also got a "Cassie" - nice gentle name for a lovely mare
"Nellie"
"Shona"

And have had two Williams and a Corky !

QR- first pony was called Rusty Nut...... Lots of sniggering from commentators! Second horse was Zak, or Ballykeeran at parties (never even thought to change either!), current share horse is Boris, which really suits him!

I had a Shetland called Flag, I think that was the most random.

My PC pony came with name Dana

She foaled Cappuccino Dream aka Kismet and I love both names

Had a chestnut arab mare registered Siham but didn't like that so changed it to Shiraz, much more fitting!

QH is Carry On Jaguar's Lady aka Dinah. Like both her names

My TB mare is Nature's Magic but didn't really have a stable name, think it might have been Squeals. I seen the name "Tanith" on TV and it got stuck in my head, I think it suits her and I love it but don't know why!

Rocco came with his name and is registered as that at Sport Horse Society. It's spooky because when I was young my favourite riding school horse was a grey called Rocco. He's Roc Star or Roc Monster depending on his mood!

Ooh good one....

Fiddler - did work well for him (bless) (Fenwick Fiddler)
Rio - loved it
Cookie - best name ever (Cuckoo's Rose)
Fi (fi fi) - Kinda works but to me sounds like quite a delicate name, and delicate she isn't! (Sweet Fidelity)

xx

My 16.3 handsome TB came with the name Henry, I was going to change it as I thought it was awful, but never got around to it. It does suit him, as he's a bit slow.

My rescue pony is called Lady Locket, she came with the name and answered to it, I wanted to change it to Flaire but didn't, she's nick named Nunu though and also answers to this so I should have changed it but after 10 years it's probably a bit late
laugh.gif

Fudge's name suits him as he's a buckskin and he answered to it so I wouldn't change it. His nick name is Fudgey Bean
laugh.gif

The sh*tland is called Goldilocks and the kids named her so I'm stuck with that too
smile.gif
shame as I generally like more unusual names.

My fisrt pony was a grey connemara called Mary! I changed it to Pepper and gave her Moorland Mist as her registered name.

My sisters first pony was called Witty - couldnt change it as it was a loan pony and 19 years old! Witty was made worse by the bristolian habbit of dropping T's! (Which her owners did hehe)

PK was called Pumpkin - she most definatly was not a pumpkin!

Frankie I didnt like at first but he answered to it so kept it and grown used to it now.

Woody Quite a butch name for a mare but she is quite a butch mare, registered as Indian Creek which I like. Shortened to Pud as she has a round Pudding bottom!

Nico I named him, seems to be called Noonie alot now though!

I love George's name it just seems to suit him, his full name is Hanningfield George but that only gets used on show entries! Of course if he is being good he is Gorgeous George!

My first horse was an ex racer - her racing name was Willo The Wisp, so she came with the stable name Wispy - yuk! We changed it to Gypsy so it sounded similar.

Then there was my second horse Bonnie, she came with that name and is a gorgeous bay welsh cob so that suited her. For a while I had her son, Major - horrible name but kind of suited him as he is a BIG 17.2 Shire x!!

My third horse came with the name Ice - I wanted to change it but couldn't think of anything else and over time it just stuck - was ok as he was a big 17.1 Russian warmblood, so sort of apt! I chose Shadow Dancer as his registered name, which I still love. He moved to a new home and they now call him Aberkhan - which apparently is some town in Russia!!

Henry (my 4th and current horse) came with the name Henry, and I love it! It really suits him as it's kind of bumbling and cute - how he thinks he appears to others! As he is good at getting out of his field, I gave him the show name Royston Houdini (the Royston bit for his sire), so I guess technically he ought now to be called Harry... But Henry he is and always will be.

I rode a grey cob called Splodge when I was about 12 - his name was very apt as he never stayed clean!

I've also ridden a Pal - he was rescued from being shipped for dog food!

I like both my current ones . . . but then I should, I chose them! Previous horse's pet name was Izzy and I loathed it so she mostly known as Isobel (as well as some unprintable ones when she was being a miserable cow - which she was pretty much all the time with me).

Reply to Murphy 88 - You see darling daughter there is a reason for calling donkey Clint. He was called Neddy when we got him, we seem to attract original names don't we
blush.gif
. Whilst thinking of names the Clint Eastwood film "2 mules for sister sarah" was on tv, following me, there was a cute donkey on that - hence Clint. Anyway I like it

I hated my first 3 ponies names, they where:
Tick Tock (we shortened it to Ticky)
High Q (We called him Quey)
Black Satin (Satty for short!)

Then I had Samson, we called him Sammy- I liked that
smile.gif

Then Legal Eagle, we called him Eddie, from "Eddie the eagle"
tongue.gif
I loved that, suited him down to the ground
Then Harry Hobnob, we called him Harry/Haz, that was pretty cool too!
I hated Tara's name
blush.gif
My Lady Tara...bleuch!
blush.gif
But she had all sort of nicknames, my fave was Tarzipan
tongue.gif

I like Fleecewood Sable Lady, but I don't like calling her "Lady", it's too common- we just call her babe
crazy.gif
tongue.gif

And Broadford Queen- aka Queenie- really suits her, didn't like it to start with but I do now, I call her the Queen B

i named 3 of mine - well stable names, they already had registered names.

Corky (Rautio) my retired chestnut
Lex (Ulexo) my bay 6yr old
Ziggy - is just ziggy! - my coloured 2yr old

my other 2 came named.

Robbie (Uranco) my bay naughty 7yr old

and my favourite for his names....

Sniff ( Universal Toyboy) my god 11yr old horse - had him from baby and his name really suits him.

My TB is called Minstrel but his previous owner called him Minnie- we swore when we bought him we would only call him Minstrel but he's been Minnie even since! He's so pretty, everyone thinks he's a girl anyway. Our mare is called Madge, short for Madonna. The breeders called her Donna but that doesn't suit her, so the people we bought her from called her Madge. But then they also have a mare called Desmond, who I had on loan for a while!

Murphy is murphy and thats fine.
Spike was originaly called Pikey which his last owner hated so changed it to Spike his real name is BUckhurst Charlie and I would love to change his name to charlie but Oh hates it!!!
I named Alee myself, her real name is Aleeta but thats just too much of a mouthful it was originaly shorted to Leeta but then Alee was so much easier and just stuck.
We did have a horse once called Donna I hated it soooooo much you wouldn't believe, I just kept thinking about her in a kebab!!!!!

I think I may well own the pony with the silliest name - I have a sec c called Gladys!
blush.gif
She usually gets called 'pony' and I hate it when people ask what her real name is!

I also have Toby and Blade, both of which I quite like. My old loan horse was called Pancho, which I loved - he was a hairy coloured cob and it really suited him somehow.
grin.gif

hows shadow for a chestnut mare???

i think its more suited to a boy, and being either grey or black. despite her pretty little face, she'd often get called 'he', which really irked me.

i didn't mind it though, but she's had a thousand nicknames... ickel shadow (no surprise there!!), ickel pickel, monkey, angel, fluff ball, little one, sparkles, spazmod, psycho pony...!! i think my favourite of those would probably be monkey or little one
smile.gif
both really suited her as she was damn cute, cuddly and too small for me really!

I really don't like the name Bean
tongue.gif
The lady who had her before me changed it from Ali which I love, can't believe I didn't change it when I got her, but initially she came on loan (actually trial but i didnt know
tongue.gif
) so I couldn't, and by the time I bought her bean had stuck.

My riding instructor names all the horses she breeds after designer labels or brand names or famous people - you may recall the post about the hack during which I had to tell a very confused little girl and her daddy that the neddies we were riding were called Rinaldo and Donatella!!!!
