I am desperate to find a new riding instructor/riding school as not satisfied with my current school where lessons all taught by 16 yr old trainees and very much of the style "kick to go faster and pull to stop." Never once heard anyone mention using your seat! :-(

I would like private lessons with an individual instructor or in a RS but with someone who will really make me work hard and learn the correct way.

If anyone has any personal recommendations I would be grateful- particularly actual instructors' names. I know the names of most of my local stables but all seem to have mixed reviews...

Ok last chance! I have the following instructors/schools on my list to contact so if anyone has any other suggestions please speak now! :)

* Chelsfield
* Mudchute
* Wildwood
* Minette Rice Edwards
* Lomond Classical Riding

Some are quite a distance to travel but if I am going less often but getting more out of it it should be worth it!

I am just going to explain what I want in terms of individual attention, focus on classical riding skills, hard work etc and hopefully somebody will be able to fit me in and won't laugh at my pretensions! :o

Yes I am in Kent. I do not know of any riding schools that teach in a truly correct way. For instance in Germany all the horses are schooled by very good riders regularly, and beginners would always start with a horse in side reins to learn how to ride from back end to front into a correct contact, but this is often frowned upon here and the norm is to see horses going around with their heads in the air and totally lacking any sort of suppleness or engagement. I hope I'm wrong and there is somewhere that has really good, well schooled horses. But another problem is they tend to be few and far between and kept for more experienced riders, or pupils doing their exams etc.

What kind of level are you at? Have you thought about approaching a dressage trainer for schoolmaster lessons? It may be more expensive, but if you want correct seat training, lunge lessons and that kind of thing from someone who has "been there done it" at the level you are ultimately aiming for, it would be much more valuable. Plus they usually have far more connection with their horses as they've often had them for many years and trained them up themselves.

I went when I was very young and can't remember much (other than the fact that it was a VERY nice yard ;)) but maybe oldencraig? I imagine they have nice horses to ride :)
