Do You Love Your Horses/Ponies?

Hell yeah I love my horse. She is with me for life and as soon as I can afford it, I will have another (and then another!) And they will all stay for life -

Love what the above poster said also.x

I love my horse without a shadow of a doubt, he is up there in the adoration stakes with my son.

Why wouldn't I love him? He has done more for me and been more of a friend to me than many humans in my life.

Afraid i'm with the bunny huggers, I absolutely totally and utterly love both of my girls and my dog and cats, and I too an unbothered by what anyone else thinks of that - I have cried a river of tears over animals, both happy and sad ones, but i'll never be without them and whatever animals i own I love them 100%.

I love my Po and call him "His Lordship" because everything has to revolve around what he wants, particularly food, plus the wife calls him that because everything has to revolve around me revolving around him, but my pet name for him is "My Big Ginger Sausage"

Mine are with me for life, I love them to bits, they are my best friends.

I lost my oldie earlier this year, at 28 having owned her for 18 years. I had dreaded that moment so many times through her life but when the moment came it was so peaceful and less traumatic than i had imagined. It just seemed natural and i felt proud to have looked after her until the end. I miss her alot but i also feel grateful for everything she taught me.

I absolutely adore Captain, I love him to pieces. I work full time to keep him and Fany, rather than the part time I was working, and get extremely defensive if anyone criticises him. He was completely the wrong horse to buy, but I have never regretted it, he is my smile, he makes everyday a brighter one for me and when I come home from work stressed, he is waiting to absorb it all. In return for all he does for me I guarantee a good life for him, he will never live anywhere else and when it is his time to go I will be there for him.

I know this sounds soppy but it is how I feel.

Fany is different, I will always ensure her future and she will always get as good a life as I can provide, but there is no real connection between us. Probably because she belongs to my daughter and I only care for her when Elizabeth is at college.

Yes,there are some I have loved.
Not as I love a human, but in that special way you love an animal that has touched your heart.
It's natural for humans to feel an emotional connectiont o other living things, esp those we spend as much time and share as much joy with as our horses.
It is also natural to keep an emotional distance

But that said, I never call her ponio/ned etc - I hate it

Not that I take offence at anyone who does, but a horse is a horse to me - I wouldnt call it anything else

Yes I love my horsey and my doggies!!!

There are some people on our yard who just treat their horses as commodities, or machines, and if they cannot compete on them any more or they get old, they sell them or put them to sleep cos they are deemed to be costing them money and using up a stable space

It's shocking and really enrages me!!

But then there are a group of us who's horses are our best friends and our children and they will be with us for life!!

Definately agree they are far better than children, they can be left on their own, don't require 24/7 supervision, probably cost less and don't answer back (much!)

Ah....well I have fab children too so I guess I'm lucky.

To be fair ,my horses, as much as I DO love them, do not compare to my children...

Whilst the love i have for him isn't on a par with that that i have for my children, he IS very much loved and cherished...i bought him knowing that he'll be with me for the duration of his life.

No your not losing the plot my fettish with my horses is that i love putting my whole face on their shoulders and breathing in their smell . Some people express their feeling more openly nothing wrong in that .

I hug my horse's bum cos it's big and huggable

Love the rest of her to bits too; wake up in the middle of the night and worry about whether she's cold, or wet, or worse... Same with my dog, we're facing losing her to cushings soon and I cried and cried when I found out, still hard to face but getting there

Do you mind if I 'borrow' your post please? I really cannot say it any better.
I do love them but in a different way to the love for my OH.I really do not 'do' names like 'sexy' 'coblet' etc and never say they are 'broken' etc

I love Henry more than anything else, he has been there through some horrible times in my life and I don't think I would have coped without him.
He may be just a horse and I would never put human emotions on him, but just having that great hulking, unchanging mass in my life made it bearable.

Any other horses that come into my life, I couldn't say if I will love them or not, but I doubt any of them will come close to him.
