A colleague has a horse and as he is a big chap she is buying a 3.5t lorry. She plans on using it for him and also possibly taking hirings to transport other people's horses to shows. I was under the impression that if you were transporting horses that don't belong to you, and charging for it, you need a special licence.

Am I right or am I making things up?

They'd certainly need commercial insurance cover - I am not sure about licences etc but she'd really need to check that out. I would imagine (deopending on how much money she's making) she's have to register as some sort of commercial business as well? Don't quote me one that one though!

Absolutely, she will require an Operators Licenece and Commercial Insurance, - she would also need to get her WATO and one or two ther tests.
