Do you need a numnah for showing?

I have finally got sorted with a show saddle that fits both me and my horse very well. I've seen so many people now showing with fluffy numnahs/half pads. My saddle wouldn't fit as well if I put one of those underneath.

I was thinking of competing with no numnah. Is this a horrible idea? I think it looks smarter and if the saddle fits why would you wear one? I only have a thin one at home for keeping things a bit cleaner!

It is fine and perfectly correct not to have a numnah underneath. Most people have it for the comfort of the horse sweat wise and not to dirty/damage the saddle. The fluffy ones are a trend and you will find most just have rolled edges.

You could look into a Limpet Saddle Pad, my friend uses these and they are also are good as if they are too big you can just cut them down!

Unless the horse dislikes numnahs, we always have a sticky and a sheepskin numnah under our saddles. But it is not incorrect if you don't have one - just personal preference.

Some judges actually prefer you have one for the horses comfort, a top judge actually pointed this out to me when I started showing as I too thought it was correct to go without. Doest have to be a fluffy one just a discreet thin brown numnah x
