Do you practice jumping when alone?

I was in the school on my own and decided to pop a small cross pole. It dawned on me after I had done it that I had never jumped when no one around and though about what if I had a fall.

Ive only been riding a couple of years not like some of you lifetimers but do you pop some jumps when your alone at the yard?

Also, what about jumping a log or something when youre hacking alone?

I wouldnt think anything of jumping alone - i often go cross country schooling alone or to forests and hack round them alone - i always have my mobile phone on me but i suppose it is risky when u think about it but i wouldnt personally worry about it. If i worried about every eventual outcome i would never do anything.

I often jump when I'm alone. If I want to practice before a competition I will try to get a friend to come and do poles for me, but if there's no one around I shove my phone in my pocket and head off to the jumping field.

I will jump a log if I come across one on a hack

.

There's always a risk, yes, but then just sitting on a horse is risky. If I thought too hard about it, I'd never ride!

I jump alone 90% although there is usually someone who knows where i am. I do jump when there's no one any where near but i always have my phone and to be fair i would class myself as fairly competent

I jump alone, mainly b'cos there often isnt anyone around!
Having said that i generally only pop jumps which are inches high with current pony, but in the past i have jumped more significant jumps with old mare. I know its probably a silly thing to do, but i do always have my mobile on me

I would do but I find it a pain in the butt trying to set up jumps etc in a school on my own as it means getting on and off all the time!

I do, but YO lives on site so would def find me in the end should something happen! I would jump a log hacking alone, Pickle is seriously reliable though.

With my pony, I only jump in the school if someone knows where I am, because we've got, er, issues about it at the moment. A more reliable horse, I would jump alone, but not very high.

Out hacking, I'll jump little logs etc. no problem.

I jump alone quite often as only 3 of us on yard and i'm often there alone after work. I'm ok doing so, as there are always people around, farmers, dog walkers, neighbours, and OH knows where i am and have mobile on me.
I also find it a major pain though setting them up and stuff

I jump alone.... but I am on a large yard so there is usually somebody around, and my horse is pretty reliable jumping, I always tell somebody exactly where I am going hacking alone though

Yep i jump on my own. The YO lives on site though and their house overlooks the menage, so its ok

My friend had a nasty accident jumping a cross pole on her own, the horse somersaulted ans he was seriously injured

The school was very isolated and if she had broken a leg, she may not have been found until alot later. Therefore I like to know someone is likely to find me if anything did happen

Yes, 90% of the time. I used to jump hunt jumps and fences when out hacking alone, hardly ever went through a gate. I only jump small things when out hacking now as I have become a chicken!

Yep, all the time. I agree with the first reply who said if you think about the safety of riding too much you'd never even sit on a horse! At our yard you write on a chalkboard when you want to use the school so I'm guessing if something happened the next person to come in would find me or someone would wonder why I hadn't come out yet. If you trust the horse you're with then why not? Although it is a pain in the a*se putting jumps up yoursel

I call someone before hopping on and let them know how long I'm expecting to be as I often ride by myself in a relatively isolated location. Same for flatwork/jumping/hacking. I'm not pushing horsey's physical limits for any of them but sometimes my skill & both our braveries! Carry mobile on me (must get proper strap to go around arm/leg), and call again once back in car. Partly due to equine-related dangers, partly stranger-related ones.

Yes, although I usually have my mobile in my pocket (not becuase I'm jumping, just because that's where I keep it when I'm at the yard). At my current yard the owner or one of the neighbours would spot me sooner or later, but at my old yard it could've been more of an issue.

Its never unduly concerned me as I often hack alone too when no-one knows where I am (sometimes not even me!)

I always ride and jump alone. I keep my horses at home on my own so dont have any choice :P I do always keep my mobile on me though (on silent).

Exactly the same and never had a problem or fall while on my own

I jump alone, its no different to hacking alone surely? It is hard work doing the jumps myself but hilarious when my boy follows me around more loyally than my darn dog would!
