I just wondered if you put anything in your horses feet when you turn them out in the morning, or do you just let them get on with it?

I've heard of people putting vaseline etc on when there is snow, I've turned mine out "au naturel" this morning - we'll see how much he has managed to pack in when I get there later!

Just thought that I'd add that I nearly spat out my milkshake at this:

I used to use goose fat, but the last jar I had was knocked over in the tackroom and I needed skis for months when I went in there:eek:

You guys must think I'm a big wierdo for forgetting the quote and therefore stating that randomly :p

I tried hoof oil last year, it did nothing! Strangely i didn't have a problem with the snow when turned out, only when loose schooling etc. Although they did spend most of their time in the field shelter stuffing their faces with haylage when turned out lol

No snow here yet, although i made the mistake of washing his legs the other day and the water instantly turned to ice when it hit the floor :/

No- my horse is absolutely fine in snow which i found really odd as my old pony literally couldnt walk in it as his feet instantly had huge solid balls and was seriously 2 inches off the ground!?! nothing worked for him, always just had to stay in or he fell over.- bless he was very special!

Sounds bad, but if his feet are packed with bedding i just turn him out without anything and just dont pick his feet out. If they are clean however i use vaseline, not sure how effective it is, but...
