Do you put rugs on soggy horses?

I dont as a rule, but we have hubbys moms 2 (one horse one pony) staying with us for a few weeks, and they are both in their late 20s, one was shivering in the wind and rain, so we didnt really have a choice. They live out and they havnt got their rugs with them. We managed one to fit but he was very wet when we put it on. He seems quite happy. We have a shelter but he cant get to it, we have the two who need no grass in there, this one needs alot more, so he is the wrong side of the fence.
 
I dont dare with Red, cos she gets rainscald really badly, so if i get her warm while shes damp Im just asking for it !!!! Sunday I got greeted by her doing the most wonderful overacted shivering though, and she was soaked, so I put a waffle rug on her and her lightweight on top - shes not having more than that if i can avoid it at all this year - shes due to foal at the end of Jan, so i want her to be hardened off and hairy if at all possible !!

I did buy a Buccas Power for her - that wicks away wet at the same time so you dont have to worry, but I needed the money far more than I needed the rug at the beginning of the year so I sold it.
 
I have done, but I try to avoid it. I always dry the horse as much as possible first and I've not had any trouble as most rugs these days are breathable.
 
I frequently rug my soggy horse after being out in rain or after a bath. I put a waffle cooler on then either a stable rug or turnout on top.
 
Most rugs are breathable now so not an issue- I just scrape them off and then rug on.

Or if they are really, really wet through, they have a thermatex on under the turnout rug.
 
i was always under the impression that to rug a wet horse was a no no.
tho rugs have probably improved massivly since i was "taught"

was in this exact position tonight, no rain forecast here today so left my boys no fill rug off ( as he'd had it on for last 24hrs) and thought id pop it back on tonight- an unforecast down pour beat me to the yard, he was soaked, so unfortunatly i didnt/couldnt rug.

feeling really bad as rain forcast on and off now most of the night :(
 
I was always told never put a saddle or a rug on a wet horse. Although I'm sure somebody said recently that it didn't matter but i cant remember who.
 
I was also told not to put a saddle/rug on a wet horse, but he wasnt muddy so we thought it would be better warm and wet than soaked and cold. Im sure hes alot happier with a rug.
