Do you rate massage pads?

My horse has just come back into light competition work after having a back operation due to being diagnosed with kissing spines last year. I know a few people who use equilibrium massage pads or something similar on their horses before competitions and whenever needed to keep their back muscles supple and relaxed. Would this benefit my horse? Has anyone else brought a massage pad for a horse with back problems?

Any info/advice would be much appreciated!

I have tried Equilibrium and Equissage, and by far prefers the cheaper equilibrium. He just enjoys it. I would say he enjoys his infra red lights as much, and seems better with the magnet rug too. He is one spoiled pony.

I as much use the massage pad to keep him entertained while he is mucked out. His lips go all soft and wobbly, and he seems to be better ridden afterwards too.

No more scientific observation than that, sorry!

Love the equilibrium pad, sends my pony to sleep and helps warm his back muscles up/cool down so he is more flexible over his top line

Love Equissage! We have a local lady who has an Equisage unit, and it is amazing, just love getting my back and shoulder massaged, yes she will give you a session after the horse. If it works as well on the horse as it does on me then yes they are great.

Might be worth waiting for the new Horseware rug coming out next month.

Hi nuttychestnut, is this their Sportz-vibe range? Will be interested to see this (and the price tag!), there are very good reviews for the dog rug but I didn't know they were bringing out an equine version so soon.

OP, I currently use an Equilibrium massage pad on my horse who has kissing spines and spinal ligament damage. My vet and vet physio say there's a noticeable improvement in his back muscles, which were very tense and sore as a result of the spine issues. Really pleased that your horse is back in work, the road is very long and uncertain for us but it always gives me hope to read others' success stories.

I think I saw on twitter yesterday from someone at burghley that the rugs are £399

We have an Equilibrium massage pad and a magnetic rug. As we are also post op KS ,not started ridden work yet. But I think they make a big difference and she also enjoys each session.
