I'm only just 22 but I remember going for. Hack and somehow tagging along on the hunt. When we got back YO made us go to hunt kennels and say thank you to hunt master and cleaned his tack.

I also remember this pony who you could only ride into a lorry not lead.

And riding to the village shop. Getting lunch in carrier bags riding back.

Did any one have whip fights?

aged 8 i decided to take my pony swimming off herne bay beach , i was swimming happily alongside her when she decided to head off for france!! i swam back to shore and phoned the coastgaurd they didnt believe me , i had to drag some random bloke into the phonebox to tell them i wasnt having a prank and there was a small grey pony at least half a mile out!!
inshore lifeboat attended and swam her back to shore for me , i thought i,d not tell my mum lol , the following week there was a double paged spread in local paper and i got my bottom smacked

OMG that has to be the funniest thing I have heard all year! Lordy.....makes one wonder why the pone kept on going OUT instead of IN mind!

Oh the vanity of bygone days, we used to ride out in normal hats with the strap either put on the peak of the hat or put at the back even at PC rallies!!! It was very uncool to have your strap down!! Jumping the seats on the moor which were fixed and out in place for spectators to enjoy the cricket, galloping across the golf course pretending the ponies were bolting with us.

Riding and jumping little fences side saddle on our normal saddles, having an old half panel saddle with the bars coming through the seat!! :)

Dad bought me a trap and I broke my dartmoor to it.
We used to load pet lamb, cat and kitten into it with our picnic and go off for hours.
No mobiles, no health and safety .
Canvas new zealands, jute night rugs with witney blankets and no velcro.
Happy days.

I always remember long summer day hacks (when you look back, the weather was always nice back then!). Used to go out on my own or with a friend on my little 13.2hh up into the foresty for hours. I was only 11 back then and my parents thought nothing of letting me go off hacking for hours (with no mobile). Nowadays, I dont hack as the roads are too dangerous and go nowhere without my phone. :(
