Do you ride in windy conditions?

Well I gave it a miss tonight, if it gets to the point where my top stable door is slamming shut, tack room door is blowing shut it nearly takes you out and any hay you attempt to put out is getting swept away in an instant then that's a sure sign to me that's its not a good idea! lol
 
Not in the hoolie that has been blowing today as personally I don't find it enjoyable, but lighter and average winds yes, my mare is fine as long as she's in sensible company!
 
I will ride in alot of conditions but would not ride in extreme wind no as you cant hear a thing and they do tend to get rather spooky. I have ridden out at the weekend and it was pretty blustery down here but not as bad as up north I think...
 
Yes I do but it depends on the horse.

A thread was put on about "why do people want cobs", this is one of the reasons because in windy conditions they are sensible, not highly strung and take things in there stride (the ones i know are). So bring on any weather and out comes the horse !!!!:D
 
I don't usually ride in very windy weather though that is exactly what sold my boy to me. I had tried him out in a big field with jumps and with my instructor and arranged to go back and hack out on my own.

I nearly cancelled as weather was so appalling (sorry about spelling). Anyway ended up hacking out in very blustery conditions. Went down narrow lane with trees either side and all of a sudden end of branch landed on his neck. He just tossed his head and threw it off without breaking stride. Did it for me!

Since then have had a deer leaping out from hedge and almost landing on us! Again all he did was a large canter stride, yes we were cantering at the time. He can be so good. Get us on a pleasure ride and the red horns come out. Bless him!!!!

My sentiments exactly. It really doesn't matter how good your horse is in weather conditions like these. You can't account for other factors such as branches and debris blowing and falling. It's just not worth the risk
 
I agree with all the safety sentiments on here.... it's not the horse (although I would love it that he would be more "on his toes" wahey!!) but we ride through woods too and I'd rather not be squished!!!!
 
I wont now - I came a cropper last week which could have been very nasty if the ground had been solid, just not worth the agro I think!
 
I don't when it's like this my 4 year old gets very upset and shies at EVERYTHING! it took me the best part of 5 mins to get him passed the shetlands who now have pink rugs on opposite his field...
 
I ride in the school as no nearby trees or other hazards to worry about. Wouldn't hack though, just in case of flying monsters :) Did 30 mins schooling this evening as usual, horse didn't seem too bothered.
