I have been trying to get used to wearing gloves when riding, so that I can wear them in dressage tests. I am finding it really difficult! Just wondered if anyone else struggles with them or do you actually prefers to ride in gloves? Also if you don't wear gloves at home what do you do about competing?

Even in the darkest depths of winter I don't wear them, I just feel like I can't judge the weight of the contact properly. Enough of my random sunday night musings!...

Only ride in gloves if competing. I've got some fab ariats which have great grip but don't feel like you're wearing anything. Wear fleecy gloves in winter.

Always wear gloves either my thicker ones if it's cold or just a lightweight summer pair

Can throughly recommend the Rockel ones, they're so good that they don't feel like you've got gloves on and the contact feels pretty much the same as riding without

I always ride in gloves, but I'm very very fussy about the fit and the feel

I can't bare it if they are too thick, made out of a fabric that interferes with feel or move at all on my fingers!!! I love (and have three pairs of in case I mislay them!) Ariat riding gloves. MacWets are also excellent

I've got the Ariat summer and winter ones. They are very comfortable but I prefer to ride without as after my accident I have very litle feeling in my left hand and I just can't feel what I'm doing.

Thanks for the info guys, might have to go and try on a pair of these ariats!!! Gosh, I must be one of the few people who don't wear them!

I always ride with gloves, cant ride without them. Experiment with gloves to find some you like. Once you find a pair you like you wont ride without them. I recommend roeckl gloves, well worth the money. I have 4 pairs as I love them so much.

I was like you never rode out in gloves untill i had to for dressage so started to ride with them on all the time so i got use to wearing them. Now i can't ride without them on, so you do get use to wearing them but you may have to try a few on first to find which ones you feel most comfy with.

i never used to wear them - felt all fumbly..

but after getting my hands ripped to shreds a few times i figured i better start and now im fine. Just have to get in the regular habit of riding in them i guess and then u dont notice your even wearing them.

Always wear them now, I think it stems from one of my old ponies pulling like at train and causing blisters! My absolute favs are Ariat Tek Grip but they only come in black and fawn. I also like Roeckl - the Ulla Salzgeber ones are great when competing in hot weather!

I wear fingerless gloves for everyday as I find it really difficult to do girth, stirrups, anything with my fingers covered. I found a great pair in a sports shop - they're for weightlifting! If I compete (which is seldom) I use bog-standard cotton gloves in which I feel totally helpless.

I don't ride my good horses in them (the ones I have trained myself) but I do wear roping deer skin gloves when I am bringing on my youngsters - sometimes they can be a real handful in the early days and I don't want to risk my skin.

I rarely wear gloves to ride (it has to be really cold in the middle of winter), as somebody else said, following an injury to my neck I have very little feeling in my left hand and don't want to make my feel even more muffled - although I do wear gloves to lunge (skinned hands once too often)
