If its lashing down, then yes, we bring in, mostly because we dont want the fields trashed, but mine is always waiting at the gate for me when its bad weather.

I am moving yards partly becausethey shut the fields every time out so much as drizzles! Drives me crazy but noone else seema bothered.

I am all for leaving Spider out in the rain :D saying that some horses dont seem to tolerate it, although that may be a result of conditioning. As a teenager my 14.1hh pony would jump out over the five bar gate to come in if so much as a sprinkle of rain fell

As mine live out 24/7 all year I would not think of bringing them in.

At the moment the weather is warm, if it was really cold I would put on a light weight on.

I am lucky that my fields do not flood or really get churned up. Good field management allows me to hav them out all th time.

Horse were born to live outside, it I just that we pamper them.

My field is being trashed by the horses because of the incessant rain. They have eaten the grass and now they are bored, so yes I do bring them in at night.

I cannot use my big field because it needs to be cut and it's too wet for that to happen. This year is a bit of a nightmare for horses. My horses are usually living out 24/7. Instead they have mud fever in July !

No....they are horses and not really likely to melt in the rain. They have a field shelter if they want to use it, but they are often found stood outside in the peeing rain!

Mine live out 24/7 with shelters so do not come in. My older pony who struggles to keep weight on has been rugged some of the time due to the rain.

That said I am lucky to have reasonable facilities. I have seen a few foals out in the persistent rain recently either on the New Forest or in private fields which have looked really miserable.

My horses come in every night wether it rains or not. It is obviously more work with mucking out & also cost for bedding but that is the way we prefer it. Our horses are healthy, fit & are in medium to hard work. They don't appear to have any issues/stable vices due to it.

To be honest I get a bit Pi$$ed of with the sweeping comments of some on the forum that all horses should be out 24/7.

sure SOME horses may tolerate certain conditions, but, if it rains and is cold i bring in or rug up, i will do whatever is necessary for them to have a comfortable life and this includes being warm and dry, and also protected by fly sheets from insects.

i am a great believer that you can avoid a lot of illness and rheumaticy joints etc by maintaining body heat, and help work and schooling problems by avoiding muscular tension bought on through cold.

Nope.

The only time they come into their stable is if I want them to dry off a bit before riding, and that's only normally about half an hour with a waffle rug on while I go and sort other stuff out!

mine are out 24/7 365, they have a couple of field shelters but you don't often see them stood inside when its raining, but they have the choice if they want it!
