Do you stand in your stirrups when your horse wees?

Yep, always have and RI always tells the children to do it. She does say to not stop for a poo, though - but I always think it's a bit 'unpleasant' ;) to be walking while you poo!! (although as someone already said, they do it in the field)!

Well, I will sit on the fence as usual. I do sit up as a habit but at the local RDA, some can't and never seen a horse struggle to pee because someone couldn't stand in their stirrups

Mine has gone in front of a judge before.... stopped in middle of canter in show ring to pee... stopped in middle of prelim 18 in middle of top circle at trot and then just carried on. Lost points for that. No manners whatsoever.

Yes I always have done, and my daughter who is 8 has always been told to in pony club. Her pony usually pees during a jump off :)

My pony mare stopped for a pee in the middle of a showjumping round at the rc. right in front of the fence we should of been jumping. :D and yes I do stand in up while they pee

My lad has never peed with me on his back, he's a gent. ;)

Most inopportune moment for me was the start of a mounted games race at championships everyone had to wait for my pony to finish his wee and then he reared up launched forward and galloped the length of the field as he knew I wasn't paying attention. Little git. :p

Yep! No harm in doing it and who says it doesn't make any difference to the horse???!!! I'd rather err on the side of caution :)

I was told to stand, as it takes the weight off their kidneys, so I is more comfortable to wee.
I was taught that too. Although I can't see why the kidneys would be involved with peeing (since the urine is in the bladder already), I have always stood up because that's what I was taught to do. However, it may have more to do with making it more comfortable for the horse to maintain the peeing stance.

Yes and lean slightly forward as it is all about shifting your weight forwards so they can stand more easily, my boy has his favourite spot whilst out hacking... in semi long grass so prevent his legs getting splashed ;)

I do, although George very rarely goes when I'm on him, he's obviously shy :D

The first time he ever did was being counted down in the start box of a HT and the starter had got to 3 and George decided he needed to go :D:D Luckily the starter waited for him to finish before counting us down again! We got our first clear xc that day :)

Yes always stand and take the weight off the back when a horse pees as 1) takes the weight off the kidney area and when they stretch out it puts them in a weak poistion, and saves muscle strain.

Will stand for a poo if we are stood still but otherwise keep on walking !

Yeap :) But my mare usually doesnt even poo when were out never mind pee, she usually waits untill shes back in her stable. I had my last lad for 3 years and he never peed once whilst he was being rode, he usually waited until he was back in his stable aswell
