Do you still feed in summer?

My horse is a very good do-er and I've never really been one for feeding her much, just a bit of hi-fi lite with her vitamins and glucosomine in it. My question is there is so much grass and its hard to keep the weight off her - would you still give her a tiny feed for the sake of getting her suppliments or should I lay off them for the summer and start again in Winter?

Ours are fed in the summer, as my sisters horse has supplements for his rubbish feet. As they are out 24 hrs a day in summer the others also get some food, but pretty much a handful in a bucket so they feel like they are getting something too.

If you feel like she still needs the supplements, then feed her the smallest amount that it takes her to accept the supplements. Although maybe doesn't need lots of vitamins etc if the grass is good, only if its a supplement for some thing specific?

Yes I give a handful of good doer so he can get his lami-lite, synequin, danilon and ragaid and skratch. A horse cant get all nutrients from modern pastures. May just give your horse a low cal feed balancer (like a vitamin pill) ?

Happy Hoof...just half a scoop, the odd carrot is added...and he only get's this as just to give him,his few supplements down his throat.....he should count himself lucky, the fat cob !

My Welsh D gets a handful of hi-fi lite morning and nite to give her her garlic but our 16.3 gets a proper feed morning and night - both come in during day to get the chubby mare of the grass and both away from flies and heat * peers out the window at grey skies mmmmmm

I have an extremely good doer who has never had lami and I don't plan for her to have it either! During the summer she has a daily feed of Top Spec Anti Lam with a handful of chaf.

I give my gelding a scoop of veteran chaff - just enough for his vits/mins and magnitude calmer - although hes a veteran hes spooky/sharp as hell without it - the cob and the shettie get a few carrots and a bit of chaff, just enough to mix garlic in..

Mine gets one scoop of chaff in the mornings to mix her vitamins into

My one is out all night at the moment and in during the day. He has a very light breakfast of 'small' handful of hi hi and 'small' handful of pony nuts and a carrot.

He has this for tea also just before he goes out.

Has has half a wedge of hay for when he comes in but often leaves it.

He is ridden 6 out of 7 days so weight is ok at the moment.

My Tb still gets 1 feed instead of 2 of topline cubes, chaff and his multivits as he is out 24/7. (box rested at mo for an injury atm!!)

My cob gets fresh air!!!!

Yep my elderly TB get a supper still. He's on senior mix and senior chaff with his aditives.

He just does not change shape at all year - I never have to adjust a surcingle or girth or anything!

No, I did feed Baileys LoCal last year but I don't think mine really need it. Both horses keep their weight pretty constant and one is a natural fattie (and big bully) so I can't feed one and not the other!

Yes - they are fed all year round. The only difference is in the winter they have Baileys Meadow Sweet mix. Ponio never has much more than an offering (1 handful maint nuts and 1/4 scoop chaff) and horse has the same amount of nuts and chaff all year round apart from when the spring grass comes through when I cut it down

My tb is getting one feed a day. Calm & cond & alfa a oil - mostly to disguise bute & foot supp! He is looking so good for him that I will prob maintain that throughout season.
My friends horses don't need a feed but do need a joint supp - she dampens it down, rolls it into a ball & feeds it from a scoop - horses seem to love it!

My NF good doer is getting Dengie good doer with her supplements and one of the small NAF scoups of pasture mix when she feels like being fussy. Grass in her paddock is now too short for her to wear the grazing muzzle, and not yet grazed to with in mm's of its life, so she only gets 4lb of soaked hay at 10pm for the 12-14 hours she is in overnight. She's not fat, but her neck is causing some anxiety. Checking her feet for heat daily...

Yep my boy gets half a scoop of happy hoof to mix his headshake supplement, calmer and cortaflex inot, he has this twice a day! Plus a blob of molasses as two of the supplements are global herbs and they stink so much he won't touch it without!

Just a handful or so of pony nuts with her cortaflex and garlic

She gets half a scoop during winter. But at the age of 28, she looks fab and holds her weight well
