as title says above:). how many of you take your earrings out before you ride and why?
is there actually any safety risks if you don't?

Nope, I have a number of holes in my ears in various places & all stay in, as does my belly button piercing. Never had a problem with any of them through riding & fingers crossed I never do!

I only ever wear tiny studs so no. I also have a small nose stud which I don't take out, if it got caught it would very easily come out anyway. I don't wear my rings though.

no, i have 3 in each ear, stud in top hole and small sleeper in middle and then larger square sleeper in 1st hole, the largest are hinged so would fall out rather then be ripped out, i also wear my rings and necklace and always have done:)

Always. In fact I normally remove everything bar my wedding ring before I go to the stables. It was drummed into me that riding in jewelry is dangerous.

If I have little studs in, I don't take them out but if I have any sort of hoop or 'dangle' then I do. Always keep my wedding ring on (with gloves) and a watch. I do have a kind of fear of earrings being ripped out :eek:

I hardly ever wear them, but put my sparkly ones in to compete :D
Never had a problem with them getting caught in the past..

No never have done, have one ear pierced and wear a stud in it. The other ear is stretched to 8mm and I have ridden with a plug and cone in it

About 20 years ago, I was wearing one pair of plain studs, my horse rubbed his head against me, caught the earring and ripped my ear lobe almost completely off. I still have a scar now. It's not just riding that is dangerous - anywhere around horses.

Having said that, I don't take my current pair of plain studs off at all, but I do not let my horse's head anywhere near mine!

I dont wear them for riding just in case somthing happens! Lol also i dont wear rings, a squashed hand and swelling resulted in my friend nearly losing her finger!

Always, even though i only ever wear studs. Its because the back of the earings dig into the skin behind my ears when i put my hat on so i always take them off. I also can't shower or sleep with them in, so they come out then too :)

I don't wear any jewellry around my horses except my watch. I have seen a few accidents with it over the years that could have been avoided if the rider didn't wear it so i have learnt through their mistakes.

I have studs in all the time and never take them out to ride - may revise that idea after my tumble last week though, moderately expensive earring lost somewhere in the outdoor arena just to add insult to injury!! :(

No - I have 10 ear piercings and its a lot of effort taking them all out and putting back in again.

But its quite interesting reading this - when I was younger and rode in pony club I wasn't allowed my ears pierced and anyone that had their ears pierced HAD to take them out for pony club activites. Quite reasonable really I think, the amount of tumbles you take in pc!

Only wear studs so keep them on but do take my wedding engagement rings off as they pinch otherwise.

The only time I take them out is when I show as jewelry is not allowed.

Yes, I always take them out to ride, I guess its a hangover from Pony Club when we weren't allowed to ride in any jewellery?

I take off my engagement ring when I play because it always turns and rubs my fingers, but leave my wedding ring on.

I almost always have a pair of small hoops in my ears and when I used to ride, I never took them out. Actually I'm somewhat clumsy, so if I only should wear my earrings when there was no risk of having them caught in anything, I would only dare to wear them when I was sleeping.

Besides I also wear glasses, they could also get caught in something and hurt my face in different ways in case of an accident, but there was never any riding instructor that suggested that I took my glasses off, lucky for me because I feel blind as a bat without them...
