Do you take your phone when you hack?

I always take mine, it's usually in my jod pocket as it's a pretty small one. Hadn't thought about the possibility of it causing problems if I fell off - surely unless I landed face down, which seems unlikely, there's little chance of it impaling me?

I take mine as there's often no one at the yard when I hack out. Although, it had occurred to me that while I have everyone's numbers, our yard is quite far from everyone's homes, so if I needed to call someone it would still take a very long time for someone to come to the rescue! I suppose ideally no one would hack out unless there was someone there to call for help, but in that case I would hardly ever go out!

I always take mine with me, I have one of those arm-band holders but it annoys me so I fasten it round my lower leg instead- much better! It seems stupid not to take one... :)

Phone is always with me when I leave the house to even go to the yard, let alone out hacking. More so in the last 5 yrs, as BT has seen fit to remove the phone boxes locally (one was half a mile & in 1 direction & the other almost a mile in the other) Now the nearest to the yard is 2 miles away.

Also, I meet up with friends on occasions (when biggest fuzzy can tend to be silly) so I always tell friends which number to call should they need to.
If going xc etc, then I make sure that OH knows, also that I will call when finished - and he's the last dialled number I have on the phone......

Finally: At the yard is a large clear printed sheet of 'In an emergency please telephone' The location of the yard, inc postcode is given so it can be read out to anyone (such as locum vet/firemen etc)
Detailed is various numbers, headed by my mobile, home & work numbers & OH's too, then vet, then farrier - followed by 2 or 3 family members/very horsey friends.
At the bottom is a short detail on the Fuzzies - name, height, colour, allergies. Finishing off in huge lettering with 'These horses are all branded and also microchipped.'

Been there done that, never go out without the phone.

Yes. Phone on me not horse... hi vis, body protector, tags with phone numbers on bridle, saddle and headcollar. I've got a cheapo PAYG phone which I bought while mine was being fixed, so it's now the riding phone as the battery lasts about 15 years :)

Always ride with it just in case.
Surely being able to dial 999/a vet in an emergency is more important than a broken phone. Phone is replaceable, dead horse and riders are not.

In the day and age where you can buy a mobile phone on PAYG for £10, its plain stupid to risk not taking a phone, particularly if you hack alone.

Couldn't agree more hun,I hack all the time on my own, will never ride without it.Do text OH and tell him though just in case.

Yes.

It's password protected due to work, so I have a sticker on the back with relevant names on.

I also have a pretty and biggish dog tag attached to a D ring. It has three phone numbers on it, just in case.

I love your idea of a dog tag on the D ring, that will be my next thing to do.

I always take mine when out hacking, but if it rings or a text message I never answer whilst riding ... In the summer when pockets are limited I keep it on my arm with the velcro phone holder thankfully I ahev not needed it yet but am glad I have it

Always, feel naked without it, use it for emergencies, use it to report illegal trial bikes, anti social behaviour, photograph flytipping and report it etc etc
