Do you talk to your horse?

It occured to me yesterday while i was out riding, that i talk to my horse quite alot while riding, i think its mostly down to not having another person to talk to (nobody on my yard goes out). Do any of you do the same, or am i just wierd.:p
 
I say good morning to our gold fish! :o I talk to the cat like he is a person, so yes, not got a horse right now, but have spoken to all my horses :D But I also talk to myself so am half mad anyway.:rolleyes:
 
I do indeedy. In fact I fear that the real reason he doesn't listen to me is because of my incessant drivel :D

Whats more, horses talk back to me :D
 
I talk to my ponies all the time, even asking them what they think of the colour of their new rug etc (I know I'm mad!) and tbh it's the least of my worries considering I constantly talk to my dogs as if they're people (I even say excuse me when I walk past them) and I even talk to my turtle. So no it's definitely not just you :D
 
Oh God..horses,the dogs and my plants too..me to milk thistle "and what do you think you are doing there pretending to be something you`re not"...think we`re all a bit touched!
 
Yep! Jasper knows more about what goes on at work than the MD! He's such a good listener. I'm always nattering away when I'm grooming/riding etc asking why he's so grubby, telling him how beautiful he is etc etc
 
christ, I have some of the BEST chats with my horse. Yesterday I was telling her how pleased I was that she has come to live with me, and I wondered did she feel the same?? She didnt reply.....However she is now treated like a princess, is up to the weight she should be, gets treats galore, ridden twice a week. Judging by the state she was in when i got her this is much improved....so I hope she was thinking yes!
 
Yes and I've been caught out by not realising other liveries have come up to my stable door to see me whilst I'm inside chatting away to the pony and I'm not aware they're there and they are standing with a funny grin on their face when I finally look up!
 
All the time! Mostly telling her how beautiful she is, how pretty she looks and how good she is! If I'm off then I say where, and pretty much let her know everything! She prob gets rather bored with my drivel, but she is good as she doesn't let on! When with oh and his mare, I often answer for them too, so have have a happy four way conversation between us and the horses!! We're happily mad!
 
i dont tent to talk that much while im riding, i do a lot whilst im brushing them and stuff lol! luckily im not the only one on my yard so i dont look crazy :)
 
I talk to my horse all the time!! I find they are great to talk to, they dont tend to answer back and they dont tell anyone your secrets!

I also find that it does keep his attention more on me when we are riding too
 
Definately. I chat to both of mine. I say hello to each of them when I get there and good bye to each when I leave plus loads of chatter in between. My gelding is particularly good at giving advice when required.
 
I've always talked to mine, and some that aren't mine!

It's telling, imo, that I've handled a few horses recently that I've been warned were crazy, nutty, wouldn't let me near them, and after a quick chat about how lovely they were I seem to end up handling horses who are falling asleep on me!

All they need is a chat before you start handling them. I mean, you wouldn't dive into bed with a stranger? So why try catching or riding a horse without getting to know them!

Sounds stupid, but I do think chatting makes the difference.

Only had one horse who could ever chat back though. She was immensely special.

i was always taught to talk to whatever i was riding, horses do listen-and we alwaystalk to them in their boxes.
 
I talk to Baz ALL the time....sometimes I think he listens, sometimes I think he doesn't - typical man :D I have some of my best conversations with him and generally find him pretty good therapy (even if it does cause strange looks from passers by).

I've always spoken to my horses and ponies - from being a toddler I can remember my Dad talking to my ponies and I think I just carried on from there. I always seem to be able to handle the difficult ones and couldn't really say if its because of my incessant rambling or just the fact I've been around horses all my life, but talking can't hurt, can it?
