I had a very interesting lesson with my instructor on Friday it went really well but I noticed at one point he was laughing his head off.

When asked why he said "Tell me if you stopped talking to the horse do you think it would refuse to move"

Apparently and this is the scary part as I had no idea I keep up a constant stream of chatting away and it is in a complete mixture of laungages

for example

"its a flappy canvas you big poof, oh goed so dat is braf, easy and draf 1,2,3,4 goed so, oxi oxi, goed so, ignore the dog thank you, bravo, goed so Vardi man" you get the picture.

So am I somewhat unique or does anyone else whitter away constantly. My trainer works in total silence with the occasional "goed so man" or Oiiiii if something is not going well.

I have ben threatened with having my mouth gaffa taped shut to test the theory out!

Tedster from HHO and I had this conversation yesterday! :D I am SO annoying, I talk to Zoom constantly!

When I'm not talking TO Zoom I'm talking ABOUT Zoom. Eg - 'Tedster, do you think there has ever been a more gorgeous pony than Zoom? It's wierd how, out of all the horses in the world I managed to get the best one'

I ride with a lot of friends, all of whom chatter away to our ponies and each other... It is very rarely quiet when even just 2 of us ride together:

"So, then he said to her... noooo Ellie, that is only a drain cover... "Shut up you rude little girl" ... for goodness sakes Ellie, you walk past it every day!!... I couldn't believe my ears! I mean... Ellieeeeee, grrrr, thankyou!... he is so rude all the time, how could he say that to her?"

So yeah, I am guilty too!

lol yes I am always chatting to my mare once we are hacking out when we came to a road juntion I ask her "which way shall we go today old girl" she looked up hill and I said "ooh that will make a change won,t it and will shall stop off at the pub for a swift one shall we" , and I did not realize my neighbour heard me and he burst out laughing.

Mum talks to her horse exactly like she used to talk to us.... apparently she says it is ingrained..... on offering said horse a drink after SJ lesson before travelling home yesterday... 'well if you don't have one now you can't have one until we get home'...... sounded spookily familiar to me :D cos yup mum, she really is going to get that sort of logic

Frank does get quite a range... normally among grrrr..... don't you DARE.... stop being an idiot... how old are you? (he is 17!)... and the occasional good boy! :D

I was told off by a judge who said I talked all the way through a dressage test!! :) I never noticed but my friends who were there supporting, agreed with the judge!!

I think, in my case, its nerves but I am trying to keep my gob shut now.....lolol :)

Have to say I talk way too much anyway but yes I talk to my horse all the time. When I am on the ground and in the saddle. Often in group lessons I think the other riders think I have lost the plot but that does not stop me!

I was chatting away to the horse I ws riding yesterday lol. I was like. 'yes I know that donkey is ugly (sorry donkey fans but this is a ugly donk) but its got a fence between it and us' and 'yes I know if makes a funny noise but going sideways aint gonna shut it up'. Best one is telling her ' I can see that rabbit in the grass, YOU can see the rabbit in the grass it will run out under your feet and you will spook because Im a idiot and have no idea if you ride in a normal bridle instead of blinkers' Spooks on que :D

The guy said oh what she was like in a open bridle then !! Cheeky Git!!!!!!

Not only did I talk to my horse, I also look at her when I am riding, which drives my instructor crazy! But then its rude not to make eye contact with the person you are talking to isn't it? :D

Ok - here is this morning's conversation!
"Morning fat girl, you're coming in today. Put your nosey-wosey in the headcollar please...come on you can walk faster than that...DONT chase Missy!...stand nice while I get the gate...move that lardy ass over...thats better....head up you grubber, leave the grass alone...who's a good girl...can we please walk a bit faster, some of us have got to go to our work...scarey plastic bag ahead, don't spook...oi that was nearly my toe...steady, its a bit slippy in the barn... stand nice for your hoofie check..its only fly spray..ok into your stable...DONT bite Jester...get your ass in so I can shut the door...can I get a kiss..no your too busy eating...ok then be good and I'll see you tonight sweet pea."

I chat to my horse all the time...one day he'll talk back, i'm just worried it will be "shut up, for the love of god woman....sshhh"!!!

LOL

Also I'm surprised that my horse knows his name he gets called Sweat Pea, Sausage Pot, Meatball, Love Bug, Sweetie, Pickle, Monkey, Sunbeam, Starshine, Monster Munch and more!!!!

I always chat to my horse, although normally if I'm on my own.
Often along the lines of "get on with it fatty" although an awful lot of "good girly" at the moment when it comes to flat work.
I talk to my horse the whole way around the xc course, it helps me to breathe, I used to tell my old mare what was coming up next and how I wanted to jump it for example "lovely combination coming up madam, right then, bouncy canter, bouncy canter, and focus, and then lots of grrrrrr'ing! followed by lots of "good girl, who's a clever girl then! :o:o
