...you 'pull' their ears? I mean as in run their ears through your fingers/hands. OH & I do it to all our dogs and always have - not the terriers as their ears were insufficient!
They never seem to mind but I wonderif they allow it as we like it or if it is something they actaully enjoy.
Obviously it doesn't compare to an itchy place scratch!
I was thinking as I know they apparently don't like having their tummies rubbed but ours also all roll over to have their tummies done, not all the time, but if they are in the mood.
 
I have always taught my dogs to either like or tolerate me massaging and investigating their ears. Main,y in case the vet has to look in there and I might have to put meds in as a follow-up:)

^^^ Which is not the same as children pulling their ears and is something I don't allow:)
 
they don't like having their tummies rubbed? Quarrie has been asking to have his tummy rubbed since he was 5 weeks old, its his favourite thing. both of mine seem to like having their ears handled-Fitz likes me scratching inside of his ears but he is a little odd.
 
My cocker spaniel would push his ears into my hand and let me rub inside them. He never rubbed them himself. He also let me use the rechargeable clippers on his ears. They were left like velvet. He was a very hairy spaniel though.

Our present dog, a labbie x, pushes his head sideways on to my hand and groans when I rub the outside of his ears.

Mine love it & also appreciate a really good finger knuckle in the ear canal - the almost orgasmic groans are a sure sign😀

A study by PETA (I think) said dogs only did it to be subservient and hated it really. Ours all love it.
Tawny who has skanky ears loves me putting my finger right in them, gross.
 
It's never occurred to me that my dogs wouldn't like their ears fondling but then again I've always had spaniels and I find it's one of life's great de-stressers to faff with fluffy long ears :)

Willow's favourite is to be tickled under her chin and she positions herself so you get her just right!! Rufus is a belly tart but it has to be done with your foot, nothing else will do.
 
Both of our labs LOVE having their ears fondled. Their ears are the perfect size for fondling, my sister has border collies and their ears are just insufficient (size does matter). Jake practically turns catatonic when you fondle his ears and if combined with OH rubbing his hips at the same time as me ear fondling he would fall over in ecstasy if we didn't prop him up. The yellow peril also loves an ear fondle. When we first got Spotty Dog she had terrible Canker and had head shook so much that she had haematomas and we could get nowhere near her ears, with medication and gentle handling and perseverance she went from being terrified of contact to craving an ear fondle, that first time was a real moment of pure joy for both the fondled and the fondler. Jake particularly likes to jam his head between your knees so you can flatten out his ears over your knees and just stroke, for hours, and hours...😍
 
One loves it, the other sticks his head in your hand for a pat on the head (which dogs are meant to hate) and likes his tummy being tickled. Although isn't overly cuddly in general, it's all on his terms. I had one before with bad allergies and was very nervous about his ears being touched.
 
I do learn some things on this forum Clodagh! It’s not something I do to my dogs. I stroke their heads or give them a cuddle. Teasel just came in from the garden , as I let her in I stroked her head, so then I ran her ear through my hand, she didn’t mind but it’s not something that comes naturally to me! No tummy tickles either, if they are asleep upside down , I might run my had down them and that’s it.
My dogs are very affectionate and happy with hands on but I am obviously not particularly drawn to fiddling with their ears. They are fine to have them trimmed or checked inside.

I don't do tummies very often, maybe with my foot while watching tv or reading but Ffee especially being puppyish just throws herself over when being stroked.
 
my GSD adores it. He likes one hand on either side going from front to back along the side of his face and past his ears. He likes the max. pressure possible and I struggle to do it hard enough he loves it so much. He also loves tummy scratches. He also likes sitting holding hands with me :D

Ooooh Beagle ears are divine aren't they????? I stop and chat to a lady with a beagle with cushings (the cushings is not really relevant to this tale). He's a strange shape, full of lumps and bumps but I always thinks his ears look sooooooo fondleable :oops:
 
All of my 3 love ears, tummies, paws and tails being played with. The boy springer suffers with mucky ears because he will put his head under in the river, he will come to me to have his ears cleaned, dried and Aurizan popped in, puts his head between my knees and flops his ears over my legs and will stand for ages letting me clean, treat and rub his ears, even when they are as clean as a whistle he still likes me to go through the same routine. Girl springer would spend all day on her back having her belly rubbed and the jrt is just a tart, you can rub his belly, pull his ears gently through your fingers and the same with his paws and tail, he will lie next to you letting all this happen and if you stop, he headbutts you to get your hand in the required spot. I think PETA are completely wrong, its the humans being subservient with all this attending to our darling doggies every need!
 
Mine seem to like their ears rubbed in that they tilt their head and lean into the rub, must say they don't get the same orgasmic look that the horse gets when you scratch the inside of her ears though. The dogs fave definitely seems to be having the top of their head scratched really hard (there's lots of fur to get through so you can't be too soft or you're just tickling them)
