Do you think fat people should be allowed to ride?

I couldn't get over how overweight and unattractive I looked whilst riding around the paddock at my livery yard. It just didn't look natural and I had to close the email quickly as I could hear colleagues behind me sniggering. I just want to know what weight is suitable for a 15.2hh TBxConnemara. I prefer bit I share my own weight online but you can pm me. It has just surprised me at how bad I looked.

I think as long as you feel ok in yourself, and your horse is not uncomfortable or suffering in any way, weight is just a number.

Depends on many things. If I weighed 12 stone, I'd be fat, I'm 5'1". Someone 5'10" can be 12 stone and pretty lean! As said, depends if your horse is happy or not.

It just has come as a shock. I don't do shows so I rarely see photos of what I look like rising never mind a video.

No I dont think that fat people should be allowed to ride

But my definition of fat is FAT not just a little overweight before anyone takes offence!

Depends on your definition of fat. I have a 2 photos of me riding and one I look positively normal, the other taken with me at same weight shows me pretty darn big.

And my horse is 14.3/15hh :D

So long as they're not too heavy for the horse. Like Hnmisty said, someone can be too heavy for a horse without being fat!

My tb is about 15.3 and I wouldn't put anyone heavier than 10 stone on him, but then he's very delicate. The Irish draught x could probably carry about 14 stone comfortably.

The troll thing - I'm not going to attack people I don't know over the internet in case they MIGHT be a troll. Innocent until proven guilty, and all that. And as for questions being asked repeatedly, it's a horse forum, it's going to be formulaic. If someone asks something you've already answered a million times, ignore it! We're not here to decide what people are and aren't allowed to post.

Ditto Pigeon.

I used to be very slim but a couple of times over recent years my weight has gone up to almost 9 1/2 stone (I'm 5'2 and used to weigh around 7 stone) and at that weight I was beginning to feel I looked too bulky on my 15.2 hh TB. All comes down to the individual horse.

I had my instructor video me on the ipad... Let's just say I've lost nearly a stone since then.... Not too heavy for the animal but just looked like a bloater....

I think the responses were referring to another thread where the OP commented....
.

See, I'm too short for time/lazy to look through people's posting history before replying to a thread :p

The troll thing does grate though. I've seen so many new posters get upset/stop posting because people arbitrarily decide that they are a troll and jump on their threads. They're probably just someone young or inexperienced, and even if they're not, what's the harm in trying to answer their question? This board is meant to be for helping people... (or have I painted an idyllic view in my head?)
