Do you think horses pine for humans?

Because I do.

My mum and Dad have a holiday home and they go of for months at a time (I know lucky them), and every time Mum goes away Badger seems down and demands attention.

Obviously I have Bodey and _Gina_ has Prince, so he just doesn’t get the cuddles, grooming and attention that he has become accustom too (Mum’s retired so can spend ages fussing), so I swear he pines for her.
He was standing at the fence today trying to look very cute, just to get a cuddle. He is a very cuddly horse, more of a dog really, he, he.

Or maybe it’s because he has a very easy time riding wise when Mum is around, and he knows he has to work when I ride him???

Is there anyone who wants to just come and cuddle Badger the Fjord???

I think I do! Theres a cob at our yard who's not really had much attention on him for the last 3 years

He literally gets put out in the morning by the YM, gets brought in by the YM and the owner just mucks out. She 'sees' him once a week when she goes down to poo pick and then she brings him when he has the farrier. But he's never groomed, hugged, made a fuss off etc .

Last night he was standing with his head over the door and usually he's quite happy now to just go in, accept his food and ignore everyone. But this time he was just whickering to anyone and everyone. Anywho, in I went armed with brushes and gave him a good groom and a stroke, he stood like an angel and seemed to thankful for it!

Definitely think he pines for her, we need to borrow a child to groom and cuddle him for a few hours - he'd love that!!!

Will do, just wish I had more time to spend fussing with him, but working kind of spoils that (even though I can nip in and out to give him a quick fuss). Plus he doesn’t love me quite like he does Mum, I make him work.

Badger would love that, he loves children, he would have been great in a Riding School (as long as he did lead rein lessons and wasn’t made to canter).

i think they do, i went to the states travelling for 3 months. I left my horse with 2 trusted people to look after her and another close friend to keep an eye on them all.
after a month i was getting emails and while she was fine, going to shows and things, my friend said she could see a difference in her. it wasnt that noticable unless you knew her, she was just abit down.
i'd had her since she was 4 and after moving her onto diy she saw me everyday fo 10 years, i always said she wouldnt care where she was aslong as she still saw me everyday.
that said when i came back she just turned her bum on me in the field and carried on eating

I don't think horses think about people they haven't seen in a while all day and all night. I don't think they miss people in the same way we do. Yes they might be a bit more friendly when they see this person than they normally are. I think its best not to over think horses emotions, I don't think they see the world how we do, nor share the same emotion.
My opinion anyway

my last horse took a while, but she liked a brief cuddle - on her terms.

new one is proving to be more gentle but still suspicious of cuddles...

I don't know what this was but - I broke my ankle badly and went to hospital. I gave everyone a list of feed, horse stuff that needed doing etc. It was the first day in 3 years I hadn't done my horse myself. Got a phonecall later to say he had colic. I went down and he was sweaty and rolling etc. Got to the stable door and he was shouting madly at me - and then fine! Never had colic before or after that

Yes some of them do, others don`t. I`ve had both types.
My current cob follows me around the field and puts his muzzle on my head, standing over me while I poo pick. He loves kisses, hugs and affection. He is in a field next to another horse but does not really enjoy turnout with other horses as he gets bullied, so I think he does crave physical contact from me, and affection, and he misses it. He always runs up to the gate neighing when I call him, and its not just a feeding time.
Consequently he is very loveable.
