Can you tell by the look on my face?

It was our first outing! We picked him up from the yard where he has been broken to harness for the last 8 weeks. Got to the training, and I had to be assessed first. made a few really silly mistakes, attatching the girth strap to the belly band I think was the worst, but also having a twist in the curb chain!
But then we went and done this...

and it was just so good!!!

Odd little shape isnt he :o

I think it is just a very unflattering piccy of him, he isn't odd shaped in other photos the OP has posted of him :)

Benson21 I am so pleased for you, it looks like you're having a fab time with the little fella :D

Oh brilliant! That looks really fun. Can you tell me a bit more about it, like his training/the assessment you had to do? (Sorry if you have posted this elsewhere and I've missed it). It just looks really interesting, I'd love to hear more about it :) (and see more pics! :p)

Oh I can talk about him until the cows come home!!!
He went to Sonny Hillier, in Lenham in Kent for 8 weeks. he started off just long reining and lunging with double lunge line (both of which we had done a bit of.) Then it went to putting a harness on and attatching a tyre to the back, and lunging again, so he started to get used to having something behind him. That all took just over 2 weeks.
He was then put to a little 2 wheeler, (I think he was again lunged in that, but cant be sure as I didnt see).
After a few days in the 2 wheeler in the school it was time for the open road! We bought a bennington 4 wheeler so he was put to that, and then it was my turn to drive him!! I had been having lessons with Sonny the whole time don was there, but with one of Sonnys ponies.
Driving don was obviously very different, we had a couple of lessons in the school, getting to know his way, and getting a feel of him, then we went out on the road, with Sonny on the backstep, so he was with me the whole time in my ear!!
We are lucky that we have 2 or 3 harness clubs in our area, we had lessons with the chairperson of one of them, so got to know her, she was doing a training day yesterday, so we went to that, to be assessed. It was just the basics of puttig the harness on properly, (of course, I made a complete balls up of that!!) and really just seeing that I was doing everything safely.
If you have a chance of doing all of this, DO IT!!! Its so much fun, i cant wait to drive him again! (although every muscle in my being is screaming at me this morning, and I am walking like an old woman!!!):D:D:D

Well, kudos to you Benson. I have always fancied driving but the one and only time I had a go I was terrified, I felt such a long way from the pony and like I had zero control. I happily long rein but driving was a whole different thing. I have visions of myself as a very old person who can no longer get her leg over, so to speak, driving around the countryside, much as my grandma used to do apparently, but I dont think I have the bottle for it!

it has taken alot of guts to go back out on the road, and i cant say i am completely at ease with it yet, but its getting better!
Cant wait to finish work and go to the yard and see him, and maybe take him for a little trip out round the block!!

I've never posted on of your threads before but I have been following your story & felt I had to reply with a big well done, you are so so brave I can't imagine how you have managed to get through this.

It has cheered me up on a Monday morning to see that great photo.
