It’s awful really! Luckily the yard I am on are like family and we will be able to get through this, I wish it was so simple but she was bought for my 5 year old daughter who is obsessed with her! I was planning to back her summer time but that will have to wait 🥲 I’ll keep you all updated on what vets say !
I'd be sending seller the vet bill at the very least.

Don't worry about backing. I'm sure your daughter will be as happy with foal cuddling as with riding & there's no such thing as backing too late, it will do the pony good.

The dealer won’t reply to me 🙄 typical

Yeah I’m feeling a little more positive now! I know my daughter will be happy with a foal to cuddle for sure ! And it gives the mare plenty of time to get use to everything else first without rushing to be backed! X

It's good you are prepared to do the best for her (and the foal). In 50 years of owning horses I've had two BOGOF foals but fortunately I've had the facilities to cope with them. The first time the seller denied all knowledge initially but then remembered they had a stallion who liked to escape! The second time the seller hadn't had the mare long but I managed to trace the previous owner and the mare had been scanned as not in foal prior to selling. Luckily both delivered ok and the foals were actually nice types but the waiting to see what we were actually getting was rather nerve wracking!

Hah. My mare (now 6yo with a day job of carting my arse around and not raising babies) had a foal a couple weeks before her 3rd birthday. Got knocked up at her breeder’s due to canoodling with her (not gelded) half brother. A surprise for me. I think I was less impressed than you seem to be.
