Our YO is supposed to be putting a school in

We have been at this yard before and left because it had no school. We moved back and she has planning permission for the school. The fence has been put up but for the past month or so we have been waiting for the JCB to arrive to level the ground so the membrane and surface can be put on.
We have had a number of reasons why the JCB has not arrived such as too wet, contractor is catching up on back dated work etc. The latest reason is that the contractor has marital problems so they will get another contractor and once they have found one and started it will be finished in a few days.
Does it sound like she is fobbing us off?
Thing is we need somewhere floodlit to ride during the winter as we don't get to the yard until it is dark. My horses are too expensive to be just weekend horses.
What do you all think?

There could be any number of reasons why the actual work hasn't started - and contractors can mess people around terribly.

Difficult one really. I suppose if nothing has happened in the next fortnight then she could be fobbing you off.....

I must say you have alittle while before you will need lights and it sounds pretty genuine if the work has already started !! I had nightmares when our school was being built took 9 months instead of 3 months i was lucky to have understanding liveries !!

Well, the weather problems we have experienced this summer could mean these are very genuine reasons for not starting. I'd give the YO the benefit of the doubt for now.

Could be something like a cash-flow problem but YO is a bit embarrassed about it. At least the intention is obviously there otherwise why even start the work. I should sit tight for a bit.

Don't worry!

My friend has been waiting for contractors to come and do her School for weeks and weeks now.

At the moment any digger driver worth his salt is stacked up to his eyeballs with work.

With all this rubbish weather some contracts that have needed finishing will still need finishing.

I don't think you are being fobbed off at all. It is just the way things are. Sometimes life just happens to people.

My friend really wanted hers up and running for the Winter but you just have to wait your turn.

I can understand your concern, but give the poor so and so's a chance

Tell her your concerns and explain that you will need the school building before the nights draw in or you will have to move.
Ask her to confirm timescales to build as well. Saying it will only take a few days is not quite true - it will take at least a couple of weeks to complete.

I was on a yard who advertised that they had an outdoor school but it was always in the process of being built. There was an indoor school but, with 25 horses, it was always crowded.
It turned out that they didn't even have planning permission for a second school.
Nearly 2 years later, they are still advertising a large outdoor school and it still isn't built.
Needless to say, I moved.

Obviously I don't know your YO and perhaps she is fobbing you off - who knows!

I will say this though, when I was having some more facilities put in at my farm, things kept being delayed....totally through no fault of my own. The weather played its part, the contractors, the footings company were very busy....the list goes on! Ours was delayed by at least 3 months....

, so she could well be telling you the truth.
