Do you think this horse wants to be ridden??

almost looks like it's been set up! who would jump on to a known bucker bareback in the middle of a large field?? why would you sit 'side saddle' as well. perhaps she thinks she's some kind of stunt rider?? albeit a not very good one:)

Why is it a 'holier than thou' attitude to say that she is not a good rider and not doing herself or the pony any favours with this kind of schoolong? It doesn't mean I think I could do a better job, but I would send it to a professional to do it for me.

If you find it fun and its not dangerous, which apart from that one rear this doesn't appear to be, why would you need to send it off for training? Its this sort of pony that people keep forever so unless you're planning on selling there's not really a need imo.

He is like my first pony. He was just like that.... hahaha! Bless him. Best pony ever!

I dont think theres anything wrong with her riding, also her horse is not in pain, he just shoves her on floor again and again.

I agree with most of you - a little bugger of a pony and a gutsy little jockey!
An entertaining watch though if nothing else - it reminded me of my friends pony club pony - she's still got him now and we and the pony are now all well into our thirty's! No-one would buy that pony like someone else mentioned - surely its a keep forever one...I hope!

I worry about what will happen to the pony when the girls outgrow it,or get bored playing with it.

Who will come along a buy such a pony?
They need adult supervision from a competent rider, for the sake of the pony, who is just going along with this silly game.

These were my thoughts. It's not so bad if they will keep the pony forever and it's just afew clips. Some people enjoy making videos like this. Who knows the rest of the time the pony may be ok. A few of the falls do look nasty like the rear but most to me look abit staged. She falls to well and in what looks like a controlled manor.
The pony doesn't look in pain to me he actualy reminded me of the horrid one alittle  Just a cheeky pony who has lurnt what he can get away with.
When I first started riding Lucy I used to fall off her atleast once a day every day for the first year. She would buck and buck till I fell off and once I was lurnt to sit her bucks she would throw herself over backwards to get me off. She would take off as fast as she could then stop dead, she would spin round without warning. She knew every trick in the book and invented afew new ones. I was 14 years old and had only been riding about a year. I never gave up on her and kept getting back on. Everyone laughted at me and told me I was mad. Some people were quite awful to me. But you know what, She turned out to be the best pony ever. :D I had 12 amazing years with that pony and I wouldn't change a single second of it. :D Who knows this could be a similer story. I can't read the description so I don't know. ;)
I just wonder what everyone on here would have made of us in those early years. I wish I had some video footage of it but it was long before I ever had a camera :(
anyway i'll stop waffling on and get down from my saopbox ;) :p :D

It's reassuring to know I am surrounded by experts that were born with perfect balance, seat, set of schooling skill and most of all, the wisdom years of experience bring [/QUOTE)

PMSL!!!! Thankyou Martlin, I heard a good few bumps as many of the replyee's came back down to earth. lol!!! ;)

Agree with you re the hands - she's definitely to blame for the going over backwards, and she's hanging off its back teeth much of the time. I look at the video and see kids mucking around, and a pony that's probably the most popular animal on the yard because it's so flippin naughty. Maybe it's my dodgy Kiwi upbringing - I'd have had a right giggle, and learned a lot from this pony!! Would I put my son on this pony? Yep, I'd see it as a chance for him to learn the importance of getting a nappy horse off the leg and going forwards - although I'd give him a neckstrap so he couldn't pull it over backwards...

My beef was with the holier than thou attitudes!!

:D I agree with you - when I was younger I'd have loved him... If I had a son (or a daughter, lets not be sexist :p) I would shove them up on it too - though with a neckstrap and firm instruction to pay attention to the poor horses mouth!

I comment on the hands because there were a few comments suggesting the horse was in physical pain or a complete nutjob - I disagree, I think it's responding negatively to an unpleasant stimulus in an entirely rational manner. I think it's the rider's fault he's behaving badly. But that doesn't mean I could do any better, or that she shouldn't have the pony :D

I read the thread, saw a few snarky comments about what an awful rider the child was, and then watched the video - plus others posted of the same kids (there were two in the vid!) and thought what a shame it was that a silly video of a naughty pony and a couple of kids messing around with it was looking like getting the usual NL sucking of teeth and pursing of lips Elf 'n; Safety treatment.

I like naughty ponies, and I like kids who mess around with them, fall off, get back on, have fun and learn lots. I'd rather see that than a child of similar age being drilled to death on a push button pony and out on the circuit picking up rosettes.

I used to head off all day on my ponies with a sandwich in my pocket. One pony regularly went home without me, one used to sling me off for no apparent reason, and then wait for me to get back on so he could do it again, I got soaked once trying to see if my pony would swim across a river (he didn't fancy it) and I still have a scar on my leg from a bareback "two people on one naughty pony" experiment that went wrong. My dad, who was in the air force, used to get calls from the control tower, asking him to tell me not to gallop across the airfield (fastest way home!) and I used to jump anything that I thought was jumpable, gallop through long grass, sit backwards on a cantering pony, and fall off ALL THE TIME. My mother just laughed at all the above.

I probably wasn't the neatest looking rider, I almost certainly socked my poor ponies in the teeth fairly regularly, I didn't ride them on the bit or practice lateral work, and I didn't bother with a saddle much. I loved every minute of it, all my ponies went on to other kids like me as I outgrew them - the sort with parents like mine, who just just rolled their eyes and told us to get back on and try again.

I'm a pretty decent rider these days - if I do say so myself. Partly because I have been lucky enough to have some amazing training, and partly because I was brought up mucking around with ponies just like the one in the video.

Just one word.

Legend.

You saw reason :D That's what happens when you get old :p I haven't jumped a motorway barrier in aaages ;)

Sniggers! I made my poncy dressage horse slither down a very steep muddy bank on his bum, paddle down a stream at the bottom, and then clamber up the other side, avoiding huge tree roots - not that many years ago!! He was completely horrified!!

you're all mad. I just taught my little TREC/games/ mess around pony to be a poncy dressage horse in his spare time :D

As a guess I would say that was one very naughty pony that knew exactly what to do to get its rider off! I would also say that we are not to know if there are plenty of videos of it going very nicely when it is having a well behaved moment (these probably didn't make for such funny viewing). As for the side saddle approach the girl probably thought this was easier to dismount before being launched over the head by a very nasty buck/cat leap/rear.
I will get shouted at for the next bit but I bet the pony didn't rear up for a while after that little episode ;) ( by the way, I am not justifying it but I am sure we have all accidentally caught a horses/ponies mouth just maybe not with such bad consequences)

The text states that it's a pony testing it's rider:

"No horse or rider was injured during the incidents. The horse that bucks do so in order to test new riders and occasionally sometimes, he does not have back problems or anything like that."

That horse needs to be looked over! He/she seems calm enough when they have the saddle on, but its just as soon as the rider get on, that they miss behave. It may have a problem with its back?
I dont agree with the rider and I dont think she should be getting back on as it is obv upsetting the horse, but she definately had got some guts to be able to get back on!!

Watch the videos of the same pony I have just posted. Looks like a really nice well behaved pony in most clips!
