I pay £27 pw per horse for part livery. The YO changes their rugs, feeds them and turns them out in a morning, MON to FRI. and between Nov and April. But from April to Nov, its 24/7 turnout. So the YO isnt changing any rugs, isnt feeding them or turning them out.....not even bring them in. Do you think that this is right? Fair? or do you think that YO should maybe lower their price in summer as they arent doing anything like they are in winter?

I think that £27 is very fair, even if the YO doesn't do anything for you. I would be more inclined to say that they should charge you more during the winter per activity. For instance at my previous yard during the winter months I could spend an extra £5.00 a day having my horse turned out and brought in (including rug changes) if I chose to.

So you have a very good deal.

Actually i think you are getting an incredibly good deal and i wouldn't rock the boat. You are getting effectively a supported livery for half the year at a regular DIY price, and biting the bullet during the summer I guess guarantees your stable for the winter.

It depends. Is she checking each horse daily in the summer and poo picking the fields? If so then I'd say that is fair.

ETS: fair price for summer, but I think cheap in the winter!

We have to buy our own hay, feed, bedding etc. The YO doesnt poo pick the fields, or de ragwort them, we have to go and pick it out our selves. Do you all think that its a fair price to say that they do less for us in the summer?

God I pay £25 a week for DIY I'd keep quiet if I were you!

Maybe they should raise the price in winter as they are doing more than they are in the summer?

£27 a week all year round for part livery is a good deal, and far easier than faffing around with changing prices by the calender.

It sounds fair to me. You have to consider it from her point of view. The variation in the work is her labour, not hay etc which she would have to pay out for in the windter and not in the summer. She needs the same amount to keep her going in the summer and the winter. Is she supposed to live on less in the Summer? She has evened it out across the year for you - very reasonable I would say.

Due to different areas of where we all live, for the facitilites that this yard has (small stables, 8 acre shared paddock in winter, 12acres shared field in summer and 15m x 20m school), its one of the most expensive in sheffield.

Yes! It will average out over the year. I wish I coud find part ivery for £27 a week per horse!

I suppose she could either do that, or charge you say £20 a week in summer and £40 a week in winter...

I know what I would prefer!

I pay £20 a week for DIY, mine live out though.
In winter its £25 inc haylege, but that doesnt include ANYTHING else, no duties etc, not even having them checked over.

You are VERY lucky!

My yard has 13 acres between 9 horses, split into 2 fields, one of the fields we cant use for half the year as we cut the hay from it.

We have 8 small stables, 11.5 x 11.5 ft, and a school which needs resurfacing.

Again, you are very lucky I would say!
Im in Co. Durham, probably one of the cheapest places, and it was going to cost me £40 a horse per week for what you have, and that was without a school.

Crikey you have a good deal! I would keep very quiet, or if it really is that much more expensive, vote with your feet and move yards.

Do you have facilities like a school as well? I know of a few DIY's around here that pay 25-30pw for no help looking after the horse at all, grotty stables, limited turn out & either no school or a school with a dodgy surface that you really wouldnt want to be riding on.

Remember, it is your choice to turn out 24/7 during summer. I bring mine in during hte day in summer as otherwise they would be far too fat from the grass & miserable with the flies. I think you have got a very good deal. Perhaps you should look at what other yards in your area offer - you might change your opinion then!

I have looked at other yards, and been stabled on other yards. We moved to this one 2yrs ago because the where we moved from got so expensive, and ow the yard we are at now, is more expensive than the old 1!!!! We used to be at stubley hollow farm, and they charge £26 pw per horse and has more faciliies.

The YO will only accept Part liveries, No DIY's allowed

I think you're on a fair price and a good deal.
I pay nearly double that (including haylage) for the same service as you.
I don't mind paying it over summer as I'd rather my horse went out. I save time on jobs and money on bedding over summer months. I also know that if my horse needs to stay in during summer then she'll get seen to in the mornings by my YO.

Maybe I should move to the other side of the snake pass

You are getting a very good deal, we average our's out over a year between them being in and then out on grass in the summer, we charge £65 a week for full livery through the year and they keep their stable but the horses can go out 24/7, this makes it easier for our liveries to know what they are paying each month and to do so by direct debit. There can be no confusion that way and no big bills for the liverys in the winter.
