Do you think this is fair? Livery rant again. . .sorry

I charge my DIYs £30 a week - That includes me putting the feed in ant turning out in the morning throughout winter 7 days a week. In summer I do not turn out as I prefer the horses out 24/7. If my clients want their horses in for a reason in summer I will turn out 5 days a week but not at weekends, that is down to the owner. The clients pay the £30 a week all year round. That covers the cost of field maintenance which I have to do in the summer, topping, spraying, harrowing, poo vaccing etc. So I think you have a seriously cheap deal
 
I think in the winter you are getting a fab deal. I want a yard like yours close to me!!! I pay £35 px for DIY inc hay / haylage this is all year round so in the summer when they are out 24/7 it works out quite expensive!
 
I pay £30 for DIY a week. I then pay £1 for basic jobs - in winter this is feeding and t/o with rug changed am and pm b/i and put in stable with net and ball - but no change of rugs. In summer I pay £1 to have a ready made feed put in the field, and the horse sprayed with fly spray am.

To me this is 100% fair as he does far more in the winter and to pay £1 for basic jobs a day is easy for him to bill.

My livery is dirt cheap. At my old yard it was 50p for a feed and 50p for a net to be put in, £1.65 to turn out and £1.90 to b/i - did include rug change and feet picked out - and this was 3 years ago.

In short, I would be happy to leave it at a standard payment all year round.
 
After reading these replies I realise what a good deal I get! I pay £60 a month so roughly £15 a week(DIY) This includes all hay throughout winter and if I leave feed in her stable he gives it to her in the mornings for me..if I couldnt get there for some reason someone would always be able to change rug or feed for me etc for no extra cost...

well at this farm i'm at just now, DIY livery i have a HUGE stable, fresh water, bedding, hay, acres upon acres of grazing (3 horses sharing) can ride where ever on the land, fab hacking for £10 in summer and £20 in the winter

We can pay grass livery price in summer if we want to BUT if you want to be sure of stable in winter you have to keep it all yr round,which is fair enough all yard I've been on do this with stabling.
She maybe only takes part diy as at least she knows all horses are getting fed and out at same time and not at random(if at all) by some owners.

Same again - you're getting a very good deal there even if the YO does nothing all summer.

That is a very good rate that you are paying, Don't forget The y.o is out in the cold, rain, dark mornings and nights!! and changing the muddy dirty rugs, Very fair rents you are paying..
I no people that pay £70+ a week for what your y.o is doing for you..

Sounds fair to me.

Basically that is about what I charge for Full Pasture Board all year round with private trails and a half mile exercise track, no reduction in summer. If owners quibble about my rates (and who hasn't ever wondered?) I just say that they are most welcome to find somewhere else to Board their horses, I also give them a breakdown of just what their money is paying for!

As a YO I have to say, don't forget, you have to add the cost of your YO's labour (even at minimum wage rates), insurance, fair wear and tear of the stable, property and fencing, and general maintenance (purchase and servicing of equipment) manure removal etc, etc, on to all that.
 
Im not saying its expensive or anything (even though a few ppl have said its expensive for what its got) , just that i thought winter would be harder work for the YO so dint no why its the same price all year round, like summer, she doesent do anything, no poo picking, no checking them in field, and if i do stable them in summer, she doesnt turn them out (like she does in the winter)

AND we have to do our own repairs!!! (when we got there, a full wall was missing, we had to pay a builder to do it)

Hmmmmmmm. Not sure that I would have done that as a livery, I would expect to move a horse into a serviceable stable, or have my costs re-imbursed.
 
I think its very reasonable and she could be charging you more in the winter for the extras. You're paying what alot of people pay for just the use of a stable and grazing and no extras.
 
I would suggest that your yard owner is being very generous.

She should be charging you at least £25 per week for the stable (as the rates on a stable are about £12.00 per week. In addition she needs to charge at least another £5.00 per week for the menage (again she will be paying rates on it).

As for feeding and putting the rugs on she should be charging you at least an extra £7 per day.

As regards the Ragwort that is her responsibility as owner or tenant of the land.

Poo picking again would be her responsibility.
