I can see it from both points of view but a girls pony on our yard has pollen allergy and copd the vet has told her not to give her horse hay or haylegh (previously lammi) and hay because of the spores in it! So she has been told to give her a dust free alternative now im not sure what it is but it is bough from the feed merchant. The YO has told her as she is not buying from them hay haylegh wise she has to go as they provide that and as she is not using them she has to go. It is a business at the end of the day so providing one with no hay haylegh would lose them money but what should the girl do she has been told either to move off or soak her hay for 20 mins as this is an adequate time to get rid of all the spores (pony wont eat it) I feel for her but also do see it form YO point of view! Whats your views?

So just to clarify - the Y/O wants the girl off the yard if the girl does not buy hay/haylage from her?

That seems very harsh especially as the girl is going on vets advice not to use this hay/haylage but unfortunately unless there is some livery contract in place most Y/O's can do whatever they like!

i think thats bit crappy of the YO. i would be anooyed if i was the girl. and probably would move since the YO is being very unreasonable.

Yo is being unreasonable IMO - one livery out of the whole yard buying specialist feed for her horse because the vet has recomended it is not unreasonable or going to make a massive dent in their finances. I personally can't stand YOs forcing you to buy theirs anyway, in my experience if it is horrible stuff you end up buying both theirs and your own to keep ned and YO happy.

I think, If I have understood your post - its quite hard to read.
I think you mean Haylage?

A lady on our yard was advised by the vet to buy a specialist hay ( I think) as her horse went down with lammi. She had a word with YO and explained the situation and the YO was ok with it

This is a yard where we have to buy from the YO

At the end of the day IMO it is the welfare of the horse that comes first and luckily our YO agrees

Sorry I dont see the yard owners point of view at all. If the vet has advised the livery to only give her horse something that is not going to make him ill I think YO is being very unreasonable and unsympathetic.

I wouldnt want to be on a yard where that sort of intolerance exists.

can she not steam the hay? I cannot see why this would be detrimental (sp) to the horse? and the YO is out of order but then if that is the way the YO is I would be moving anyway!

That's outrageous!! I'm on DIY livery on a working farm - we can buy our hay/straw direct from the YO - but we are free to buy what we want when we want it- my horses are on shavings cos its quicker/easier for me, and when the hay's rubbish I buy Equilage - YO doesnt mind, she says its up to us what we wish to feed and bed our horses on - especially if it Vets advice!! I would prob want to move anyway if thats the attitude of the YO, not particularly supportive !! Our YO will knock down wall/make extra ventilation for horses with special respiratory needs, she even built a special stable for one pony !! (not bad for £15 a week eh?

I think the YO is being a complete s**t.

Fancy kicking a horse off cos their not making enough money out of it. Disgusting IMO. If that happened on our yard (and it wouldn't) I know the rest of the liveries would move off in disgust.

QR - the YO is being very unreasonable - they want to damage the horse's health for their own monetary gain?? They should start selling the stuff that the horse needs maybe??

We can buy what we want on our yard and YO doesn't mind. She buys hay, straw and shavings in if we want them. I asked her if she minded if I used easi-bed and she said yes of course. Make no odds to her.
I think your YO is an arse. It shouldn't always be about money.
I would guess the horse had been advised to use something like Readigrass or something like that.
