My horse has been on paddock rest while operation incision on leg heals completely - its looking really good, almost completely healed (has a pressage on for protection). However with him being a messy sod he has churned up his paddock and needs to be moved - do you think he will be ok in a big field??

He tends to be pretty calm anyway - plus he needs the grass to get weight on.

Difficult one this , as his wound is healing so well . Would it be possible to divide up the big field ?

I'd be inclined to ask the vet - but I am always very cautious !
Good luck & hope he's 100% soon .

We cant divide the big field, and he needs to be out or else it swells up. The vet last time i spoke to her said the turnout was essential, so it looks like i going to have to take the risk!!!

ill put him in last thing tonight and go down 6am in teh morning to check him i think. Maybe even give him some leftover sedalin so he doesnt have sudden energy burst (as he is usually turned out in there anyway).

i think dividing up the field would be a good idea incase she does decide to have a run and wound opens back up but i supose it depends where the wound is?!?

I had same problem with surgery in jan I used electric post and tape and made about 6 smaller paddocks.Hes back in them again for splints at the moment .That way he has plenty of grazing beccause you can move a bit of posting everyday. You dont need the electric to be on if they are respectful and it keeps them safe.

I cant divide the field as i am on a livery yard - if it was my own i defo would. If this monsoon hadnt have happened then it would have been ok!!!
