Question as title really. Just wondered. If so, is it a percentage, a set amount or what?

I used to buy my old (now retired) farrier a bottle of whiskey at Christmas, but not tip him. I now have a new guy who's very good, and charges £20 for an occasional trim on my barefoot highland. Would you tip him as well?

If my farrier goes out of his way to help me out with a lost shoe or something at short notice then I try and slip him a few extra quid if I can afford it and he gets packs of our home reared sausages and bacon :)

Ive never even considered it. My farrier provides a professional service and I pay his bill. I think he would be a bit offended if I tipped him like a delivery man.
A bottle at Christmas is entirely different.

No. Previous farriers, a box
of chocolates etc at Christmas, but not otherwise.

Current farrier would be insulted and as we are good friends and neighbors, it would be awkward. I get a massive discount on shoeing and trimming, which whilst nice, is slightly awkward, he's an excellent farrier too. I give him and his wife a bigger than usual Christmas present.

he gets a bottle of wine at christmas time or if he is doing me a favor (like recently he has been dealing with my lad who has been very difficult due to the arthritis in his spine and being unable to hold his hind feet up for long)
but other then that no I don't tip. He sets his prices and makes a good living I hate tipping for someone just doing thier job! its such an american thing. I dont get tipped for just doing my job!
If someone goes above and beyond then yes I'll do something like give them a bottle of wine/case of beer etc.

Yes , every time! He charges £40 and I pay £50, I thought that was pretty usual and pay it cheerfully, he is a good reliable chap

Yes I tell him not to walk out in front of a bus when it is moving.

Seriously no I don't and would not

No never thought about it. I do wonder about tipping my hairdresser. I don't tip taxi drivers. ? You don't tip the girl at the till in Sainsbury's, don't tip the barman at the pub but do tip waiter/waitress In restaurant. Who should you tip ?

No.. Never.
If he went out his way maybe? I don't get him anything at Christmas either.. Then again I'm quite cold and love to save my pennies!

I Don't tip my farrier I pay £75 plus stud holes per set .
I do give champagne at Christmas and a bottle of wine any time he comes in quickly to put on a lost shoe.

Never even thought of it - feel I pay a lot anyway just for a half set. Give a box of chocolates or bottle of wine if he comes out near Xmas. No one tips me for doing my job!

Some tight a***s on here by looks of it.

Or maybe people who pay a lot already? Just had a bill for over £160 for 2 horses, so no I'm not going to tip my farrier for doing the job I pay him for. That's gross pay of £100 per hour!!!!!!!!
I'd loved to be tipped in my office job........

yes, he drives a long way just to do 2 trims in an area where he has no other clients so i give him an extra £10

Similar to this, charge is £15 a trim but if he's come out just for one or two I round up to £20 to make the visit worthwhile. If he's doing all of them then no I don't tip as the trip out has been more worthwhile.

No! At £130 every 5 weeks I think that's more than enough. Gets tea and a biscuit if I've got any in and a Christmas card. I think he'd be insulted if I gave him a fiver.

This, plus I know he is always grateful that I provide a clean working environment, my lot always have clean, dry feet to work on and he and his lads get tea/coffee.

I've only used mine twice, but I think bribery or danger money might be more in line than a tip. He'll definitely be getting a bottle at Christmas.
