Drifter has just had a new rug ordered.

Gullivers New Zealand appears to have shrunk when it was washed and reproofed as his new mum has told me he needs a bigger one (it was always a cosy fit but now too cosy ) so I am going to have to fork out for new rugs for both boys right on top of insuring both.

My OH has grumbled at me as I wont buy a new waterproof jacket as I hope to make do with the old ones and now I have a smelly head cold and I would normally buy echinacea for me to stave of colds but bought it for Driffy instead to boost his Immune system.

Definitely!

My horse lives very much a life of luxury, he gets everything he needs and has a massage monthly because he likes it

I'm sure I'm not the only horse owner that spends £70 every 6 weeks for shoes for my horse but once a blue moon I spend £30 for a new pair of shoes for me!!! And I live on about a tenner a week!

In some ways ..yes!!

My horse has a much nicer & more expensive 'range of clothing' than me at the moment .. gets new shoes more often .. regular back massages & loving attention

while I trudge through the mud at the field gate in my good (inexpensive) clothes on my lunch break trying to convince her that as its raining she really should want to let me catch her and put her in her nice warm stable ...
hmmm ..

I was going to say yes, but given Oldmare's response above .... I think not

Can't remember the last time I bought myself new shoes, can certainly remember the last time he got new ones!!

I'm sure his wardrobe is better stocked than mine too

Yes

I have two divas

but compared to some horses they make do with very little. I'm sure they would love to have huge beds and a personal groom on hand 24 hours a day

but they're kept clean, dry and well fed

which is more than I can say for me sometimes

I am always getting told off for it. I come the bottom of all lists.
I currently have holes in my only boots. I went along to the local tack shop open day/sale with boots in mind.
I came away absolutely thrilled with an exercise rug for one of our rescues just comeing back into work. I was so excited i was hugging it and couldn't stop smileing.
I have very wet feet today but Rocky looks smart in his exercise sheet.
He has EPSM and it realy helps his muscles.

Yep always! I'm not going to Burghley (mainly to do with the weather!), which is a little treat I have each year so instead Bailey is getting a new rug! Typical!
Saying that he's out in his field in the pouring rain & I'm in a nice dry office but at least he's not at work...!
The dog & the horse always, without exception, get fed before me & OH!

totally!! mine is a bit spolit whilst i just about make do with stuff for myself!! since he's been off work and poorly he's had toys to keep him entertained a plenty, at least a half hour fuss and scratch each day and me running round like a mad thing in my lunch hour to make sure he gets his short walk & extra fuss... whilst I - well turn up at work in clothes that dont fit with straw in my hair!!!

wouldnt change it for the world though!

Gosh, yes! New shoes every six weeks, massage every six weeks, rugs repaired instantly, joint supplements since age 4 - whereas I can't remember the last time I bought shoes for myself, I last had a massage almost a year ago, my outdoor clothes are all rips, and although I'm increasingly creaky, I don't take any supplements ...

No, I treat myself better than the horses. The reason I do this is because I have to care for over 40 horses and if I am not in the best of health and have the correct attire for the job then the horses cannot have the best of me; something would give and I'm afraid I am not in a position for something to give; it simply has to work and work well.

Tia - I had no idea how many horses you have!

Do you mind telling those of us who don't know, why you look after so many? Are they all yours?

Sorry for post hijack!

Lol!! Well up till about 3 weeks ago I owned 23 of them, however I had a bit of a selling spree and now I only own 18; however some of them have remained here under their new ownership. The rest of the horses are liveries. I have another 7 new livery horses arriving at the end of the month.

I think if it is a case of splashing out on me or buying something for the horses then i would rather spend on the horses, as it is my passion, but i am a very practical person and if something does the job then thats fine wether me or horse! I simply love to bargain hunt... I love horse tack sales etc i have had some smashing top brands for peanuts! I could never justify spending £200 on a rug if something for £50 did the same job.

My animals, be they horses, dogs, hamsters or what, come before me. I do not buy anything not needed, but they get what they need. me, I tend to make-do and only buy when necessary.

No. They are outside, in the rain, eating grass.
I am indoors, in the dry, drinking coffee and dunking cookies.

I treat my horses like horses, they get what they need to keep them happy and healthy. All my animals get the same level of care, room service, laundry, personal chef, attention, affection, respect, health care, etc, etc. Pretty much the same as my family really, except the animals don't come in the house and if I had to choose there would be no choice, hubby and daughter first.
