How do you honestly see your horse?

My intsructor got me thinking. A friend of hers has just bought a horse from Germany, no doubt for mega money. She says its really nice but its trot isnt as nice as Gin's (my horse).
Now obviously im underestimating poor Gin. I know she has a lovely trot and has real 'wow' moments at times but shes not a world beater. My instructor sees loads of horses and always says they arent as nice as my mare so it must just be me.
Im not sure if it has something to do with me seeing her everyday

S please be honest about your horse.

I have a good reality-check type attitude about my horses because I have so many of them. It's very easy for me to see what they are really like, warts and all, especially as most are bought to sell on, so I have a reason for choosing what I choose. I think if you only have 1 or 2 horses it might cloud your judgement on them somewhat though.

I think I have always been quite honest about Ellie's jumping ability - I've always known that she is far too clever, scopey and talented for me, and that, in the right hands, she could have gone a long way. But as far as dressage is concerned, I think I have always perhaps underestimated her; when I went for my first lesson this year, the last thing I expected to be told was that she had the potential to 'take me as far as I want to go'! I always thought she'd be useless at dressage, wrong shape, wrong kind of paces, but i've found out that her walk in particualar is practically faultless!

I definately underestimate my horses, through my own lack of confidence. Both are so good to me, and Harry in particular is very forgiving. I hope I manage to give them both a good life in return for what they do for me.

Other than I think he is the most handsome-est pony on the planet, I know he isn't going to Wembly, but I dont care, he does everything I ask of him except jump.

I tend to slightly overestimate my horses I guess, although I've got more realistic as I've got older.
