Do you use coats for your dogs??

Yes, but only if going on a road walk or if its really throwing it down.
Generally if going for good run don't bother, if only walking on roads or going somewhere after like parents house then will put it on to prevent wet dog! But we do have a drying fleece for after a walk where he either gets wet or dirty or both and for after shooting.

Yes - I have a working collie who does not have any underfluff so cannot keep the rain out. He then becomes unbelievably cold and shivery and cannot get warm. Interestingly he will not go in ANY water except shallow puddles......even if other dogs do...as he knows he is not waterproof.
The bonus to having a coat...we have a dry dog and no wet in the house.

We've got 3 dogs. A Kelpie x a jack russell and a staffie x. Only the staffie wears a coat. If its just light rain she doesn't bother but if its heavy or cold or windy too she does.

Dobermanns have quite fine coats so she has a rain sheet for warmer weather when it's raining. a newmarket style fleece, a weatherbeeta waterproof padded one and another the same as a spare. if it is really cold she is double rugged .my friends mum knitted a hat to match her fleece, she looks like a wee rasta. :D

Yes I do ,I've got whippets ,they're very fine coated
Altho they go in all weathers ,they hav fleeces n water proof
If running out in fields I take them off ,,most whips do feel the cold

We have whippets and an Italian Greyhound and they wear winter raincoats in this weather. If it's just cold and dry they have fleece jerseys on. They do feel the cold and are fine coated as has been said above.

i have a hi-viz masta for my rottie,i use it in bad rain so i only have to dry his legs and belly.i also use it if v.cold because we are in the yard for an hour + and dont want him to get cold hanging about.during the last cold spell he found out that the rubber mats are a better place to be :)

My Airedale has one, like a waxed jacket, only wears it when it is really raining hard. She is quite fussy about getting wet and is much happier with it on when its raining.

Two ex racing greyhounds with an extensive wardrobe each.
Thick padded waterproof winter walking coat
Lightweight waterproof warmer weather walking coat
Proper wool newmarket coats for posh wear.
Fleece indoor coats for those colder nights.
Knitted indoor coats as jimjams.
Silver reflective space suits for sunny summer days to prevent overheating.
Toweling cool off coats for soaking in water to cool the dog down if they have been running around on hot summer days.
I dont think that I have missed any.

OMG I must be so cruel!
My WHIPPET X doesn't have a coat... I refuse to put her in a coat. I know she will go rabbiting and just either rip it to shreds or rip herself to shreds when trying!
She gets a good rub down and seems to survive well without...

Tia the 'really hard' rotti x American bulldog as she shivers, whines and literally plants and tries to dart for home if shes cold or wet.....if course she plays in and loves puddles and mud....but rain and cold are very different. I gave up fighting with her as at 4 stone my back isnt up to it.

Mine (pointer, elderly lab and JRT) have coats for night time (they are kenneled inside a barn) but are naked in the daytime. They also have a heat lamp for when it's really cold. I think the kennel is actually warmer than our bedroom :)

I bought my 2 Dobes and our Lancashire Heeler the Weatherbeeta reflective rugs, we have had so much rain here and it always seems to be dark and dismal and they were just merging into the gloom. Now they stand out like a sore thumb and I can see them easily, I can also hear the Lancashire Heeler as she has 3 bells on her collar.

Three ex racing greyhounds (and a greyhound/whippet cross) with ONE coat each - a Blizzard coat with a waterproof outer and warm liner.

I was going to say I am always made to feel guilty by all the other GRWE volunteers who have about a million coats for each of their dogs....then I read Rabatsa's reply :D:D:D

I used to baulk at the idea, but I got an Equafleece jumper for my older dog when he lost all the hair on his throat, chest, tummy, and have used it on the younger dog as he is longhaired and comes in at night, it is handy on nights like this to minimise dirty stains on the carpet!!

Yes mine wear them most days in the winter when it's chilly or wet. One of my main reasons are that mine are fluourescent and my horses are stabled on a working farm, which has cars, tractors etc whizzing about all day - so it's as much for their safety as anything in case they wander off etc.

Also mine hang out round the stables while I do all my stable chores etc, and they can't just wander around willy nilly as, as above being a farm I need them in sight, so they often take to the hay room or feed room and sleep/nap while I muck out 4 and I'm a bit slow as mega fussy with my stables, so I don't want the dogs being cold waiting for Dad to muck out.

If I'm walking them, then home no hanging about I leave the coats off.

I bought one for my little collie, she has a pathetic coat no underfluff at all and gets cold and shivers, only problem is when I put it on her, her legs no longer work  she can just about manage a stiff legged walk but can't/won't run at all in it so if we want to play ball or go sniffs then I have to take it off her then she gets wet and shivers and we have to come home :-(

but she loves being towelled off when we get home and I love towelling her off she gets soo wiggly and cuddly and ticklish

then she wears a home made fleece until she's dry, she'll run about all day in her fleeces .. wierd creature she is

Staffie cross and smooth coat, thin skinned patterdale both have thermatex wicking rugs for drying off, weatherbeeta landa for wet walks and fleece sweater types for cold nights (they live inside but our victorian house gets quite cold without the heating on). Hairy labradoodle only ever wears one in on very wet walks and then only to protect the furniture as when she comes in wet she attempts to dry off rolling on the sofa.

Mine come with me all day, every day, including hours in the parked car, so yes, they have appropriate clothes. :)

The almost naked lurcher has a selection. If it's chilly he wears an Equafleece jumper and possibly a rug over that if he's in the car in the cold. He also has a waterproof but the jumper is surprisingly water resistant and dries very quickly.

The younger lurcher has more coat, although no undercoat at all, and doesn't like a jumper so she rarely wears a cost when she's out, although does have a waterproof for really wet, cold days. I didn't use to put a coat on her in the car but she's having soundness issues so now wears a big fleece to keep her haunches warm.

I do find that having fleeces on in the car cuts down on dirt in the house because the dogs are dry and easy to brush off by the time they get home. So sue me. ;)

They both also have post bath coats because we live in a small flat so they get showered a lot and I can do without a sopping wet house.

Yep, my yard terrier pup has a waterproof for running round in and then a thicker warm one for when he has a nap in his cage in the lorry as he struggles to stay warm but a 5month pup shouldnt be up all day.

M wears a padded waterproof one when its raining and cold cos hes at my yard with me all morning. Had all on coaxing him out of the house this morning and even with his coat on he was miserable. Hes turning into a wuss!
